Reports to: Lead Systems Analyst
American National is seeking a professional Senior Programmer Analyst II to join the Annuity Software Development team supporting producer pay, contract and licensing, marketing, and analytics solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced application developer who enjoys building reliable enterprise applications, integrating systems, collaborating with business partners, and solving complex technical challenges in a Microsoft-based environment.
Note: Candidates may also be considered for the Senior Programmer Analyst level based on experience, skills, and overall qualifications.
What You’ll Do
Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using .NET technologies, including VB.NET and/or C#
Build and support data-driven solutions involving SQL Server, DB2, stored procedures, SSIS, and database connectivity
Integrate applications with third-party systems and RESTful APIs
Develop and maintain error handling, logging, and notification processes to support reliable production operations
Collaborate with business analysts, product teams, stakeholders, and Agile delivery teams to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including participation in an on-call support rotation
Document technical processes, workflows, and solutions while ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices
What We’re Looking For
Minimum of four years’ hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using .NET, VB.NET and/or C#, object-oriented programming, and SQL
Strong experience with SQL Server, SSMS, database design, stored procedures, and data integration; DB2 experience is a plus
Working knowledge of REST APIs and application integration concepts
Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
Exposure to Agile delivery environments and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners, translate business needs into system requirements, and work through shifting priorities
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, MIS, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant work experience will be considered
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting insurance, annuity, producer onboarding, compensation, contract, or licensing systems
Familiarity with life, annuity, health, or property and casualty insurance products
Java experience or broader object-oriented development experience
Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other developers
Work Environment
This role is based in League City, Texas, and offers core business hours with participation in an on-call rotation. Relocation assistance may be considered for the most qualified candidate. No routine travel is expected.
