Senior Project Engineer

Summary

Senior Project Engineer leads end-to-end M&E projects in construction, overseeing design, procurement, installation, and commissioning while managing budgets, risks, and teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage multiple concurrent M&E projects end-to-end — from scope development, subcontracts, and customer proposals through to budget control, cost risk management, and timely delivery.
  • Lead project planning and scheduling, forecasting engineering activities and procurement needs to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Review and sign off on technical design documents (drawings, data sheets, BOMs, subcontractor SOWs) and oversee detailed design work, including equipment selection and duct/pipe sizing, guiding the drafting team on construction and shop drawings.
  • Oversee equipment installation and M&E hookup, ensuring proper mechanical and electrical connection and commissioning of equipment on-site.
  • Approve method statements, risk assessments and Safe Work Procedures, and oversee site inspections to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
  • Serve as senior technical authority for resolving complex M&E issues and evaluating subcontractor/equipment proposals.
  • Lead stakeholder coordination across clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams, escalating critical issues as needed.
  • Mentor junior Project Engineers, Site Supervisors & Workers to ensure safe and timely project schedule milestone completion.
  • Ensure timely submission of progress claims, supporting variation claims where required.
  • Support business development through client engagement and input into tenders/proposals.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5–8 years' experience managing M&E projects in construction (semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or subcontracting), with a track record of independently delivering projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of M&E systems, construction contracts, and commercial terms, including handling claims and variations.
  • Experience with equipment installation and M&E hookup (mechanical & electrical connection/commissioning of equipment).
  • Proficient in MS Office, project scheduling software, and ACAD/BIM operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience managing project teams and subcontractors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with confidence engaging clients and senior management.
  • Able to work independently, take ownership of outcomes, and lead cross-functional teams.
