Senior Project Manager Consultant
The Role
Millpond is looking for a Senior Project Manager Consultant to join its Christchurch team and lead projects across a range of client engagements.
One engagement might involve shaping a business case, another leading a technology implementation or systems upgrade, and the next coordinating an infrastructure rollout or organisational change initiative. Projects vary in length and span different industries and business environments.
You’ll build trusted relationships with sponsors and steering groups, align internal teams and external vendors, and provide the structure and leadership needed to keep delivery moving. You’ll operate confidently at a senior level while remaining close enough to the work to identify issues and resolve them early.
You won’t be expected to have worked in every industry or with every system. What matters is your ability to build trust quickly, apply sound judgement, and provide practical project leadership in unfamiliar environments.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Project Manager Consultant, you will:
Lead complex client projects from initiation and planning through to delivery
Establish fit-for-purpose governance, delivery plans, priorities, and accountabilities
Build effective relationships with sponsors, steering groups, and project stakeholders
Coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams and external delivery partners
Manage scope, schedules, budgets, risks, dependencies, and project reporting
Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and contribute to Millpond’s wider capability
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:
Proven experience leading complex digital, technology, or business change projects
Consulting or professional services experience, or the ability to add value quickly within unfamiliar organisations
A track record of bringing structure, direction, and momentum to challenging projects
Confidence working with project sponsors, steering groups, and senior stakeholders
Sound commercial judgement and strong communication and relationship-building skills
An adaptable and practical approach, with the ability to work autonomously
You’ll likely have around five or more years of project management experience. However, Millpond is more interested in the complexity of the projects you have led, your maturity as a consultant, and the impact you have made than an arbitrary number of years.

Why Join Us?
At Millpond, consultants are trusted to lead their work, use their judgement, and contribute to the wider team.
We offer:
Varied client engagements across different industries and project types
Autonomy to adapt your approach to each client and project
Hybrid working flexibility
A collaborative team that openly shares knowledge and experience
Opportunities to mentor others and contribute beyond project delivery
