OCU are looking for a Senior Project Manager to be based in Scotland, you will take a leading role in the delivery of major BESS and high-voltage infrastructure projects, with initial responsibility for supporting the successful delivery of the Hunterston BESS project based in Scotland.

You will oversee projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality and technical standards.

Working closely with clients, engineers, contractors, suppliers and internal teams, you will provide strong project leadership across the full lifecycle — including design, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning.

As the Energy Division continues to grow, you will also contribute to developing project delivery capability, processes and teams to support future BESS and grid infrastructure projects.


Project Planning & Delivery
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project execution plans covering scope, programme, budget, resources, risks and deliverables.
  • Lead the delivery of major BESS and high-voltage projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Monitor progress against programme, budget and key milestones, taking proactive action to address delays or emerging issues.
  • Manage project change, technical challenges and competing priorities to ensure successful delivery.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual, technical, safety and quality requirements.

Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
  • Build strong and effective relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead project meetings, progress reviews and stakeholder updates.
  • Provide clear, accurate and transparent reporting on project performance.
  • Manage expectations and resolve issues effectively to maintain strong client relationships.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including project managers, engineers, site teams and support functions.
  • Provide direction, coaching and mentoring to project team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable and high-performing project environment.
  • Support the recruitment and development of the wider project team as the Energy Division continues to expand.
  • Contribute to establishing best-practice project delivery processes for future BESS projects.
Resource Management
  • Plan and manage personnel, equipment, materials and other project resources.
  • Coordinate with resource managers and functional leads to ensure appropriate skills and staffing levels are available.
  • Optimise resource utilisation while maintaining project programme, safety and quality requirements.
Risk & Programme Management
  • Identify, assess and proactively manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain robust mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Monitor key project performance indicators and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Proactively manage programme risks, site issues, design interfaces and technical challenges.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Establish and maintain effective quality assurance and control processes.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet client requirements, industry standards and company procedures.
  • Support inspections, audits and project reviews.
  • Promote a strong culture of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance across project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK regulations, industry standards and project-specific requirements.
Commercial & Financial Management
  • Take ownership of project budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Monitor project costs, revenue and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, invoicing and financial reporting.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and work closely with commercial teams to protect project performance.
  • Ensure delivery remains aligned with contractual obligations and client requirements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil or Mechanical), Project Management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience managing the end-to-end delivery of major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering high-voltage substation projects, ideally at 132kV or above, including design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.
  • Experience within the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), renewable energy, transmission or distribution sectors would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical infrastructure and substation components, including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, control panels and earthing systems.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant UK DNO/TSO standards, National Grid specifications, CDM Regulations, IEC standards and other applicable requirements.
