Summary

Lead a 24-month government cloud migration from on-prem SAN to Microsoft Azure, overseeing budgeting, security compliance, and vendor coordination.

Salary: $150 - $170 per hour (inc. super)

  • 12 + 12 month contract – October start date
  • NV1 Security Clearance - Barton, ACT
  • Transition workloads from SAN to Azure

Our client, a Federal Government department based in Barton, ACT, that delivers programs and policies to maintain and improve Australia's law and justice framework, requires the services of a senior Project Manager for a 12 + 12 month.

You will lead the delivery of a strategic cloud migration program that will transition workloads from the Department's on-premises Storage Area Network (SAN) and associated infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.

Duties of the Senior Project Manager

  • Lead the planning, governance and delivery of the Department's Azure cloud migration project.
  • Develop and maintain the Project Management Plan, schedule, budget, RAID register, benefits realisation plan and other project artefacts.
  • Coordinate internal ICT teams, vendors and delivery partners to achieve project milestones.
  • Develop and implement transition, cutover, operational readiness and legacy infrastructure decommissioning plans.
  • Manage project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, ensuring timely escalation where required.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Government security requirements, including the Essential Eight, ISM and applicable Whole of Government policies.
  • Manage procurement activities and vendor performance where required.
  • Develop and maintain project financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Apply FinOps principles to support effective cloud financial management, including forecasting, optimisation, cost transparency and ongoing operational cost management.
  • Monitor project expenditure and provide accurate financial reporting to governance committees.
  • Deliver the project through to formal closure.

Manage delivery of the following key project outcomes:

  • Migration of workloads from the Department's Storage Area Network (SAN) to Microsoft Azure.
  • Migration and rationalisation of data to reduce legacy data holdings.
  • Delivery of major security patching activities where required.
  • Windows Server 2016 uplift and associated SQL Server migration.
  • Modernisation of operational monitoring capability, including replacement of SolarWinds.

Skills and Experience - Senior Project Manager:

Technical skills
Demonstrated experience delivering Microsoft Azure cloud migration projects; strong understanding of Azure infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments; practical expertise in FinOps, cloud cost optimisation and forecasting; experience with storage migration, Windows Server and SQL Server migration; knowledge of Essential Eight, ISM and Australian Government ICT security frameworks; strong financial, governance and vendor management skills.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience successfully delivering large-scale cloud migration projects within complex enterprise or government ICT environments.
  • Proven experience managing Microsoft Azure infrastructure migration programs from initiation through to operational transition and project closure.
  • Demonstrated practical expertise applying FinOps principles, including cloud cost forecasting, optimisation, financial governance and budget management.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, risks, dependencies and vendor performance.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of the ISM, Essential Eight and Whole of Government ICT policies.
  • Experience delivering Windows Server, SQL Server and enterprise storage migration projects.
  • Experience implementing cloud operational monitoring solutions and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g. Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect or Azure Fundamentals).
