Job Overview:

Primoris T&D provides construction, maintenance, and engineering of electric Transmission, Distribution, and Substation infrastructure. Ancillary services include wireless telecommunication installation, environmental cleanup, project management, and storm restoration services.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading a portfolio of large-scale, complex transmission and substation capital projects from concept development through commissioning and closeout. This role provides oversight for project execution, financial performance, resource planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Project Manager serves as a trusted advisor to business leadership, customers, and project teams while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with organizational objectives.

This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for managing critical projects, mentoring project management staff, and driving continuous improvement across project delivery processes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple large-scale transmission and substation projects with overall accountability for scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage project portfolios consisting of complex capital programs with significant financial and operational impacts.
  • Lead project teams through all project lifecycle phases, including initiation, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Provide leadership during critical project issues and develop recovery plans when project performance deviates from established objectives.

Financial & Portfolio Management

  • Maintain full financial accountability for assigned projects and programs, including budget development, forecasting, cash flow management, earned value analysis, and variance reporting.
  • Present portfolio performance updates, financial forecasts, and risk assessments to executive leadership.
  • Evaluate project investment opportunities and contribute to capital planning and prioritization efforts.
  • Ensure achievement of financial targets and optimize project performance through proactive cost management practices.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

  • Serve as the executive-level point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with customers, utility partners, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and leadership teams.
  • Lead executive steering committee meetings and provide clear communication regarding project status, risks, mitigation strategies, and business impacts.
  • Facilitate resolution of complex stakeholder issues and project escalations.

Risk, Contract & Change Management

  • Direct enterprise-level risk identification, mitigation planning, and contingency management efforts.
  • Oversee contract administration, contractor performance management, claims resolution, and commercial negotiations.
  • Review and approve significant change orders, budget adjustments, and schedule modifications.
  • Ensure contractual compliance and alignment with company policies and customer requirements.

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Mentor and coach Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
  • Participate in talent development, resource allocation, and workforce planning activities.
  • Champion best practices, project delivery standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support development and implementation of project management methodologies, tools, and performance metrics.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive safety, quality, and operational excellence initiatives across all assigned projects.
  • Lead post-project reviews and implementation of lessons learned across future projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project execution efficiency, resource utilization, and cost performance.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Physical Sciences, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible project management experience in electric utility, transmission, substation, energy, infrastructure, or heavy construction environments.
  • Demonstrated success managing large capital projects and programs.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple high-profile projects simultaneously.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and supporting strategic business decisions.
  • PMP certification is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Power BI, and Excel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of transmission and substation project execution and utility capital project delivery.
  • Highly proficient in project controls, scheduling, forecasting, cost management, risk management, and contract administration.
  • Exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Ability to influence organizational decisions across multiple business units.
  • Proven ability to lead large cross-functional teams in highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification.
  • Experience managing transmission line, substation expansion, grid modernization, renewable interconnection, or utility infrastructure programs.
  • Experience with regulatory reporting, utility capital planning, and executive portfolio governance.
