Senior Project Manager, Water/Wastewater Treatment Systems
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Project Manager, Water/Wastewater Treatment Systems based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to lead complex water and wastewater engineering projects while building toward a future Principal or practice leadership position.
You will oversee project delivery from planning through completion, ensuring strong performance across schedule, quality, communication, and client expectations.
The position combines technical expertise in water treatment with project management, client relationship development, business growth, and team leadership.
You will work directly with clients to solve challenging engineering problems and develop practical, lasting solutions.
With support from experienced internal teams, you will help recruit and lead staff and sub-consultants across a growing project portfolio.
The role is particularly suited to an entrepreneurial professional who wants to establish an independent practice and expand a client portfolio.
This is a fully remote opportunity with the potential to make a significant impact across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and supervise multiple water and wastewater engineering projects, ensuring commitments related to schedule, quality, communication, and successful delivery are met.
- Work directly with clients to establish project schedules, define expectations, communicate progress, and maintain strong long-term relationships.
- Provide technical leadership and demonstrate expertise in water treatment design and water/wastewater utility engineering.
- Apply knowledge across a broad range of infrastructure, including wells, pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Serve as the project management lead while strengthening client relationships and identifying opportunities to support evolving client needs.
- Act as a trusted problem solver, developing practical engineering solutions that make clients’ projects and responsibilities easier to manage.
- Recruit, guide, and direct internal staff and sub-consultants with support from existing teams to ensure projects are completed successfully and on time.
- Mentor and develop engineering professionals while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing project environment.
- Support business development and marketing activities, including the development of an independent portfolio of clients and opportunities.
- Help build and grow a water and wastewater engineering practice, leveraging organizational resources, technical expertise, and established project opportunities.
- Contribute to internal water treatment plant design opportunities while developing a broader, sustainable project portfolio.
- Progress toward a Principal and practice leadership role by combining technical excellence, project management, client development, and team leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- 15+ years of related professional experience working on water/wastewater projects within a design or engineering consulting environment.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Demonstrated expertise and successful project experience in water treatment design and water/wastewater utility engineering.
- Strong understanding of water and wastewater infrastructure, including wells, pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks, and treatment systems.
- Proven track record of successfully solving complex engineering and client challenges in a client-facing environment.
- Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to oversee multiple projects and balance schedule, quality, communication, and client expectations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish trust and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, staff, and sub-consultants.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead, and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
- Business development, marketing, and client portfolio development experience is highly desirable.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the motivation to build a practice, develop lasting client relationships, and identify new opportunities.
- Ability to work independently while leveraging support from broader technical and professional teams.
- Salary range of $150,000–$200,000.
- Fully remote opportunity within the United States, with an alternative location in Roseville, California.
