We’re partnering with a leading financial services organisation to hire a Senior Python Software Engineer into a team focused on developer platforms, engineering productivity and AI-enabled software delivery.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys building the tools, platforms and workflows that improve how other engineers design, build, test and release software.
You’ll work across backend systems, developer tooling and automation, with a particular focus on how AI can be embedded across the software development lifecycle to improve engineering productivity and developer experience.
What you’ll be doing
This is a senior individual contributor role with genuine influence over how software is built internally.
You’ll remain close to the code while helping shape developer tooling, platform capability and the adoption of AI across the SDLC.
It would suit a senior backend or platform engineer who wants to work at the intersection of Python, developer experience and applied AI.
Hybrid model - Salary $180,000 - $240,000 plus bonus.

What you’ll be doing
- Design and build backend services and internal developer platforms using Python
- Develop tooling and automation that improves the end-to-end SDLC
- Help integrate AI-enabled capabilities across coding, testing, review, documentation and engineering workflows
- Build developer-facing tools that make software delivery faster, simpler and more consistent
- Contribute to system design across scalability, performance, reliability and maintainability
- Evaluate emerging AI development tools and determine where they can add practical value
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand workflow pain points and turn them into technical solutions
- Build, test, deploy and support production-grade software
- Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards and technical direction
- Strong hands-on Python software engineering experience
- Deep backend engineering experience across APIs, services and distributed systems
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling or engineering productivity solutions
- Experience with AI-enabled SDLC tooling, LLM-based developer tools, coding agents or engineering automation
- Strong system design capability
- Experience operating software in production
- Good understanding of CI/CD, cloud-native engineering and modern software delivery practices
- Strong problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience with Java, Go or TypeScript is advantageous
