Description

We are seeking a Python Developer to design, build, and maintain an educational blockchain platform used for academic credentialing, course completion records, and verifiable certificates. You will work closely with instructional designers, registrars, and IT staff to implement a permissioned blockchain that lets students own and share tamper-proof learning records while giving institutions a reliable audit trail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain blockchain components (smart contracts, ledger services, APIs) primarily in Python
  • Implement digital credential issuance and verification (e.g., W3C Verifiable Credentials, Open Badges)
  • Integrate the blockchain layer with existing LMS platforms (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard) via REST APIs
  • Write and test smart contracts (Solidity or Python-based frameworks such as Vyper, Brownie, or Web3.py tooling)
  • Build backend services and microservices using Django/FastAPI/Flask
  • Design and manage node infrastructure, consensus configuration, and wallet/key management
  • Create developer documentation and train internal staff on platform usage
  • Ensure data privacy and FERPA/GDPR compliance in all on-chain and off-chain storage decisions
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipeline maintenance

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional Python development experience
  • Hands-on experience with at least one blockchain framework (Ethereum/Web3.py, Hyperledger Fabric SDK for Python, Substrate, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals: hashing, consensus mechanisms, public/private keys, smart contracts
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and working with relational and NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows
  • Strong written communication skills for technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in education technology, credentialing, or academic records systems
  • Knowledge of W3C Verifiable Credentials, DIDs, or Open Badges standards
  • Familiarity with Hyperledger Fabric or other permissioned ledgers
  • Understanding of FERPA, GDPR, and student data privacy requirements
  • Experience with cryptographic libraries (e.g., cryptography, pyca) and secure key storage

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape a emerging use case at the intersection of education and distributed systems
  • Collaborative, mission-driven team environment
