Senior Python Engineer

Over more than 20 years, the company delivers market-leading weather intelligence software that empowers our customers to confidently assess and manage the impact of weather on their markets. Our flagship product is used throughout the trading day on monitors across the majority of trading floors in North America and Europe.

They are at the forefront of applying cutting-edge machine learning technologies to forecast renewable power generation and energy demand (load). Their mission is to leverage data-driven innovation to accelerate and transform the renewable energy sector.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Python Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python backend development and experience building, enhancing, and maintaining reliable and scalable backend services.

The role is focused on general Python software engineering and backend service development.

Requirements:

• 5 years of professional software development experience
• Strong commercial experience with Python, with a focus on backend development
• Proven experience building, maintaining, and enhancing backend services
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
• Good knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases
• Experience with Git and standard software development workflows
• Experience writing unit and integration tests
• Understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and clean code principles
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with a structured approach to investigating and resolving technical issues
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical tasks and solutions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working with cloud environments and/or containerization (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker) (would be a plus)
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and backend integrations (would be a plus)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and development automation (would be a plus)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• Level of English: Upper-intermediate (at least)

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and enhance backend services and applications using Python
• Develop and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend components
• Implement new features and improvements based on business and technical requirements
• Design and develop RESTful APIs and integrations with internal and external services
• Analyze existing codebases, identify areas for improvement, and implement technical enhancements
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues and production incidents
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following software engineering best practices
• Collaborate with other engineers, QA, product, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical decisions and architectural improvements
• Ensure code quality, reliability, performance, and maintainability throughout the development lifecycle
