About the Role:
We are building a dedicated QA automation capability for a mature, complex application with over 20 years of continuous development. We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to help establish the architectural foundation, engineering standards, and automated test coverage from the ground up.
In this role, you will partner directly with the QA Automation Manager to design a maintainable automation framework, implement scalable testing patterns, and automate broader engineering workflows. Because our practice is in its foundational stages, you will have significant autonomy to make architectural decisions, solve real testing bottlenecks, and shape how quality engineering is practiced across the organization.
Primary Tech Stack: TypeScript, Playwright, Relational Databases / SQL, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting tools (Node.js / PowerShell).
Key Responsibilities
Framework Architecture: Design, build, and scale our core test automation framework using TypeScript and Playwright, establishing clean patterns for test organization, fixtures, and reporting.
Test Coverage: Implement robust automated suites across all layers: end-to-end UI, API, and database state validation - for high-value business workflows.
CI/CD & Execution Strategy: Integrate test runs and quality gates directly into delivery pipelines, optimizing for parallel execution, speed, and failure diagnostics.
Test Data & SQL Validation: Work with relational schemas and stored procedures to build reliable test-data setup, isolation, and teardown strategies.
Process Automation: Identify repetitive QA and engineering tasks; build custom utilities and scripts (Node.js, PowerShell, etc.) to streamline daily workflows.
Standards & Mentorship: Drive code reviews, establish reliable testing practices, and help mentor other engineers as the QA team grows.
What We’re Looking For
Framework Experience: Demonstrated track record building or significantly evolving test automation frameworks (not just writing tests inside an existing framework).
TypeScript & Playwright: Strong development skills in TypeScript/JavaScript with hands-on expertise in Playwright (or comparable modern browser automation tools).
Databases & Scripting: Solid proficiency with SQL, relational database structures, and stored procedures, along with scripting experience for task automation.
Pipeline Integration: Practical experience configuring automated suites within CI/CD environments and diagnosing cross-layer failures (app, environment, data).
Pragmatic Mindset: Ability to balance test coverage against long-term maintenance costs and navigate the nuances of a mature, legacy application.
Collaboration: Strong communication skills to articulate architectural tradeoffs and partner effectively with development and DevOps team
