Senior QA Automation Engineer (Backend/PHP)
Summary
Senior QA automation engineer focused on backend testing of billing and reconciliation flows: exploring systems via code, data, and logs, building automated checks, validating async workflows with Kafka/RabbitMQ, and diagnosing issues across services and databases. Needs 5+ years in QA, strong SQL, and B2 English; PHP is a plus.
- Explore system behavior and key business processes through code, data, and logs
- Test billing and reconciliation flows end to end, primarily at the backend and database levels
- Build automated checks for critical business flows
- Validate asynchronous workflows and integrations involving message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Review developers’ unit and integration tests, identify coverage gaps, and advocate for improvements
- Diagnose issues across services, queues, databases, and external integrations, including when logs are incomplete
- Challenge assumptions, communicate risks, and escalate issues to technical and business stakeholders, clearly explaining their financial and customer impact
- 5+ years of experience in QA with a strong focus on backend testing
- Strong SQL skills, including multi-table joins, aggregations, reconciliation queries, and identifying duplicates and data mismatches
- Hands-on experience testing legacy systems with incomplete documentation
- Experience testing asynchronous workflows or systems using message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Ability to read and understand backend code; experience with PHP is a strong advantage
- Practical experience building automated checks for backend business flows
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to investigate issues across multiple system layers
- Confident communication skills, including the ability to challenge developers constructively and escalate issues when needed
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher
