What are we looking for?
- 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance and test automation for web-based applications, including at least 2 years of experience testing WordPress or PHP-based platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright or Cypress, using TypeScript or JavaScript, including framework development, page object models, fixture management, test data handling, parallel execution, and resolving unstable or flaky tests.
- Proven experience implementing automated testing within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions or similar), with automated tests serving as release quality gates.
- Experience with REST API and contract testing using tools such as Playwright API Testing, Postman/Newman, Pact, or equivalent solutions.
- Solid understanding of WordPress architecture, including themes, plugins, block editor functionality, WP-CLI, and testing of WordPress core, PHP, and plugin upgrades.
- Experience testing authenticated user journeys and subscription-based workflows, including cookies, session management, caching behavior, and differences between logged-in and cached user experiences.
- Proficient in using browser developer tools, including network monitoring, console diagnostics, performance analysis, and HAR file investigation.
- Working knowledge of SQL for test data creation, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals, accessibility testing practices (e.g., axe-core), and web security fundamentals based on OWASP standards.
- Proficiency with Git, Jira, and Confluence, with the ability to create clear, well-documented defect reports that include reproduction steps, supporting evidence, and environment details.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple agile squads simultaneously, effectively managing testing priorities and delivery timelines.
- Experience testing advertising technology platforms, including Google Ad Manager, Prebid, ad slot rendering, lazy loading, and refresh mechanisms.
- Familiarity with paywall and subscription platforms, such as Piano or similar solutions.
- Experience with visual regression testing using Playwright screenshots, Percy, or equivalent tools, as well as performance monitoring through Lighthouse CI.
- Understanding of CDN caching strategies, particularly CloudFront, and the ability to validate cache behavior and release deployments.
- Experience conducting cross-browser and real-device testing using platforms such as BrowserStack, with particular focus on iOS Safari.
- Experience testing APIs and services hosted within AWS environments.
- Experience working with WP Engine hosting environments.
- Knowledge of performance and load testing using tools such as k6 or JMeter.
- ISTQB Certification or equivalent QA certification.
- Previous experience collaborating with offshore, remote, or geographically distributed teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Own and drive the overall quality assurance strategy across multiple product squads, defining risk-based test coverage, automation priorities, manual testing requirements, test data management practices, and release entry and exit criteria.
- Establish and maintain test automation standards in collaboration with other QA Engineers, including framework design, coding practices, naming conventions, page object models, fixture management, and code review processes to ensure consistency across platforms.
- Mentor and support developers in adopting quality-first practices by promoting testable code, encouraging automated test creation, and reviewing test coverage as part of the pull request process.
- Actively participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and requirement discussions to ensure acceptance criteria are measurable, testable, and aligned with business objectives before development begins.
- Partner with Product, Editorial, and Ad Operations teams to facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), communicate release readiness, and provide visibility into known issues and potential risks.
- Collaborate with external technology partners and vendors, including WP Engine, The Code Company, and Piano, to support environment management, platform upgrades, testing activities, and escalation resolution.
- Provide backup support for fellow QA team members during periods of leave, peak delivery cycles, and major release activities.
- Lead defect triage and production issue investigations, identifying root causes across web applications, WordPress environments, content delivery networks, third-party integrations, and APIs.
- Monitor application performance and release quality using tools such as Beacon and Lighthouse CI, analyzing Core Web Vitals including LCP, INP, and CLS before and after deployments.
- Track and report key quality metrics, including escaped defects, critical user journey coverage, test stability, and release effectiveness.
- Identify recurring defects, automation gaps, flaky tests, and technical debt, ensuring they are prioritized within squad backlogs and improvement initiatives.
- Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end automated test suites using Playwright and Cypress for critical business workflows, integrated into CI/CD pipelines to prevent failed releases from reaching production environments.
- Validate affiliate and commerce platform integrations through API, contract, and functional testing, ensuring accurate product information, pricing, feed synchronization, and tracking parameter implementation.
- Perform end-to-end testing of membership and subscription journeys, including registration, authentication, paywall access, subscription management, newsletter sign-ups, and member-exclusive content experiences across desktop and mobile platforms.
- Ensure quality across digital customer experiences by testing website templates, navigation components, Gutenberg blocks, media players, and shared UI components, including visual regression testing where applicable.
- Validate advertising technology implementations, ensuring ad placements, targeting configurations, consent management settings, header bidding integrations, lazy loading behavior, refresh mechanisms, and layout stability meet business and technical requirements.
- Plan and execute regression testing for WordPress core, PHP, and plugin upgrades within staging environments, while conducting post-deployment smoke testing and release validation in production.
- Maintain reliable and scalable testing environments by managing test data, seeded content, test user accounts, advertising configurations, and environment parity between staging and production systems.
- Stay current with emerging QA practices, test automation technologies, WordPress platform updates, and browser privacy changes that impact authentication, cookies, advertising technologies, and user experience.
- Leverage AI-assisted testing tools and productivity solutions to improve automation efficiency while ensuring all generated code and test updates are appropriately reviewed and validated.
- Continuously build domain expertise across key business platforms, including Google Ad Manager, Prebid, Piano, and related digital publishing technologies, to support increasingly sophisticated testing activities.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge, promoting quality best practices, and identifying opportunities to enhance testing processes and tooling.
