Senior QA GEN AI Engineer

Discussion

Summary

Senior QA GenAI Engineer at 99x in Lisbon (hybrid, 3 days/week on-site): designs test strategies for microservices and distributed systems while building GenAI capabilities — AI agents, RAG/embedding solutions, and LLM integrations (e.g., MCP) — plus backend microservices in .NET or Java to bring AI into the SDLC.

We are looking for a Senior QA GenAI Engineer to join our team and play a key role in integrating quality assurance practices with cutting-edge Generative AI solutions.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of intelligent systems that enhance the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including AI-driven automation, testing strategies, and application modernization. You will work in a hybrid setup, collaborating closely with engineering teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and quality across distributed systems.

The role is hybrid, requiring presence 3 times per week in Lisbon.

Responsibilities

QA & Testing Strategy

  • Design and implement test strategies, test cases, and quality assurance processes for complex systems.

  • Ensure quality across microservices and distributed architectures.

  • Use tools such as Postman and SOAP UI for API testing and validation.

  • Promote best practices in QA, automation, and continuous testing.

GenAI & Intelligent Systems

  • Develop and implement AI agents to support application modernization and technology migration.

  • Build intelligent capabilities to optimize different phases of the SDLC, including testing and validation.

  • Work with LLMs and associated protocols (e.g., MCP) to enhance system capabilities.

  • Design and implement solutions using RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) and embedding techniques.

Backend & Microservices Development

  • Develop microservices and APIs to expose AI-driven capabilities.

  • Collaborate on backend systems using .NET (preferred) or Java.

  • Ensure services are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with modern architectural practices.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and QA engineers.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on quality, automation, and innovation.

  • Take ownership of deliverables, working autonomously with a strong results-oriented mindset.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in .NET (preferred) or Java.

  • Proven experience working with microservices and distributed systems.

  • Solid background in QA practices, including test design, execution, and strategy.

  • Hands-on experience with QA tools such as Postman or SOAP UI.

  • Practical experience working with LLMs and related protocols (e.g., MCP).

  • Experience with RAG architectures and embedding techniques.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously, with a responsible and results-driven mindset.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with event-driven architectures (EDA) and event brokers such as Kafka.

  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as gRPC, SOAP, and JSON-RPC.

  • Knowledge of API security practices, including OAuth2, JWT, and zero-trust principles.

  • Experience with observability tools and standards such as OpenTelemetry.

  • Background in high-availability systems.
