Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer with strong experience in web automation using Playwright and hands-on manual testing. The candidate should be capable of developing and maintaining automation frameworks, debugging complex issues, integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, and managing day-to-day QA activities throughout the software development lifecycle. The role focuses on web application automation, end-to-end testing, functional and regression testing, and ensuring product quality and release readiness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Web Automation Playwright

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web automation frameworks using Playwright and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Automate end-to-end user journeys, functional scenarios, smoke tests, and regression suites.
  • Create reusable page objects, fixtures, utilities, and test data management components.
  • Handle dynamic elements, asynchronous operations, browser contexts, authentication, file uploads/downloads, and network interception.
  • Perform cross-browser testing and optimize parallel test execution.
  • Investigate flaky tests, debug failures, and improve framework reliability.
  • Maintain automation reports, screenshots, videos, and failure diagnostics.

2. Manual Testing and Day-to-Day QA Activities

  • Understand business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications.
  • Prepare test scenarios, test cases, test data, and test execution plans. Perform functional, integration, exploratory, smoke, sanity, and regression testing.
  • Identify edge cases, negative scenarios, boundary conditions, and potential failure points.
  • Validate end-to-end workflows across UI, backend services, and database layers.
  • Log defects with clear reproduction steps, expected versus actual results, logs, screenshots, and supporting evidence.
  • Retest fixes, perform impact analysis, and verify that existing functionality is not affected.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, defect triage, and release sign-off. Assess feature readiness and communicate quality risks, blockers, and release status.
  • Maintain test documentation and ensure adequate coverage for new and existing features.

3. Debugging and Root Cause Analysis

  • Investigate automation failures, application defects, environment issues, and intermittent failures.
  • Analyze browser console logs, network requests, server logs, API responses, and relevant database records.
  • Use browser developer tools and debugging techniques to identify the root cause of failures.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce issues and validate fixes.
  • Identify flaky tests, synchronization issues, test data problems, and configuration-related failures.
  • Distinguish between genuine product defects and automation or infrastructure issues.

4. CI/CD and Automation Execution

  • Integrate Playwright test suites into Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD platforms.
  • Configure automated execution for smoke, sanity, and regression suites.
  • Manage test execution parameters, environment configurations, test data, and secrets appropriately.
  • Configure parallel execution, retries, reports, screenshots, and failure artifacts.
  • Investigate pipeline failures and ensure reliable automated feedback during builds and deployments.
  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to improve test execution and release processes.

5. API and Database Testing

  • Perform basic REST API testing and automate important API scenarios where required.
  • Validate response codes, payloads, authentication, and negative scenarios.
  • Use SQL queries to verify database records and backend state.
  • Leverage API and database validation to support end-to-end testing and debugging.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of experience in software testing and QA.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Experience developing or maintaining reusable automation frameworks.
  • Good understanding of manual testing, test design techniques, defect management, and regression testing.
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills across UI, browser, application, and backend layers.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
  • Proficiency in Git and basic command-line operations.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, SQL, and database validation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and ownership of assigned QA activities.

Good to Have

Experience with BrowserStack or LambdaTest for cross-browser testing.

Familiarity with Docker and containerized test execution.

Exposure to performance testing tools such as JMeter or k6.

Experience testing complex business workflows or transaction-based applications.

Familiarity with log monitoring and application observability tools.

Exposure to AI-assisted test generation and automation tools.
