Senior Quality Assurance Engineer SDET

Summary

Designs and implements automated test frameworks for web apps, APIs, and microservices in a healthcare RCM platform, integrating testing into AWS CI/CD pipelines and performing exploratory testing to validate complex workflows and data integrity.

Description

Engagement Overview

EMS|MC is seeking an experienced independent contractor to provide software quality assurance and test engineering services supporting its Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) platform. The engagement will focus on designing and implementing automated testing solutions, integrating continuous testing within AWS-based delivery pipelines, and performing targeted exploratory testing to validate complex enterprise workflows. The selected contractor will deliver scalable, high-quality testing solutions that help ensure reliable, secure, and production-ready software.

Scope of Services

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks for web applications, RESTful APIs, and microservices.
  • Developing automated integration, component, and API tests using C# and/or TypeScript.
  • Integrating automated testing into AWS-based CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery.
  • Developing sufficient familiarity with the applicable platforms, systems, integrations, data flows, and technology stack to inform test design, automation strategy, and troubleshooting.
  • Performing exploratory and risk-based testing for complex enterprise software solutions.
  • Executing complex SQL queries across relational databases, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL, to validate transactional integrity, data transformations, state persistence, application functionality, and data accuracy.
  • Participating in technical and architectural design discussions to identify quality risks, boundary conditions, edge cases, security vulnerabilities, and appropriate testing strategies.
  • Consulting with designated EMS|MC stakeholders to refine quality strategies, clarify test requirements, manage testing scope, and align quality efforts with business priorities and agreed-upon acceptance criteria.
  • Investigating software defects by reviewing system logs, tracing API calls, inspecting database states, performing root cause analysis, and collaborating with technical stakeholders to prevent recurrence.
  • Developing and maintaining testing utilities, integration test harnesses, automation tools, quality engineering processes, and test suites with appropriate logging and metrics to support rapid debugging.
  • Supporting testing activities that align with applicable security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including access controls, audit logging, token-based authentication, HIPAA/PHI, PCI-DSS, SOC, and OWASP principles.
  • Preparing documentation related to testing strategies, automation frameworks, verification workflows, and quality recommendations.

Expected Deliverables

  • Automated test frameworks for web applications, APIs, and enterprise services that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with engagement requirements.
  • Automated integration, component, regression, and API test suites supporting new product features and enhancements.
  • Testing strategies and quality recommendations that improve software reliability and reduce production defects.
  • Continuous integration testing capabilities integrated into AWS-based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exploratory testing results, defect documentation, and recommendations for risk mitigation on complex enterprise workflows.
  • SQL-based validation of application functionality, data integrity, and business processes.
  • Root cause analysis and documentation for identified software defects, including recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Technical documentation supporting test automation, testing methodologies, and quality engineering best practices.
  • Knowledge transfer, documentation, or walkthrough sessions, as requested, to support ongoing continuity.

Requirements

Contractor Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years providing software quality engineering or SDET services supporting enterprise software applications.
  • Strong programming experience using C# and/or TypeScript/JavaScript with the ability to write clean, maintainable, object-oriented test automation code.
  • Experience in modern UI test frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, specifically applied to complex single-page applications built in Angular.
  • Experience in API testing such as REST, JSON, Postman, RestSharp, or custom C#/TypeScript API test harnesses, including testing async messaging and event-driven patterns.
  • Strong database engineering and SQL proficiency with the ability to write non-trivial SQL queries (JOINs, aggregations, data profiling) to verify data pipeline outputs, transactional state, and database integrity.
  • Experience working within AWS cloud environments.
  • Understanding of data privacy, auditability, and security concepts relevant to regulated industries such as HIPAA/PHI, PCI-DSS, SOC, and OWASP Top 10.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to articulate complex quality concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Experience Preferred

  • Experience testing within Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), Healthcare IT, Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps methodologies, and automated deployment practices.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and cloud deployment patterns.
  • Performance, load, stress, or scalability testing using tools such as k6, JMeter, or comparable platforms.
  • Agile and Kanban software development environments with an emphasis on continuous delivery.

Engagement Details

  • Services will be performed pursuant to a written Independent Contractor Agreement and applicable Statement(s) of Work.
  • Deliverables, priorities, timelines, and other engagement-specific terms will be established by mutual agreement before the applicable services begin.
  • Initial Term: The initial engagement is anticipated to continue for up to twelve (12) months. Prior to the conclusion of the initial term, EMS|MC and the contractor may mutually evaluate whether to extend the independent contractor engagement or pursue an employment opportunity, if there is mutual interest.
