Senior Quality Engineer (SDET - Automation)

Summary

Senior SDET designing and maintaining automated tests with Selenium/Playwright and Cucumber for a complex enterprise fintech platform to strengthen coverage and integrate CI/CD pipelines.

About the role
We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer (SDET) to join us in Bengaluru.

This is a hands-on, automation-first role for someone who can design, build and improve automated testing across a complex enterprise fintech platform. You will help strengthen test coverage, improve framework reliability and embed quality earlier in the software development lifecycle. Working closely with Engineering, Product, DevOps and Quality Engineering colleagues, you will support resilient releases, faster feedback and a more consistent approach to continuous testing.

What you’ll do

  • Design, write and maintain functional test cases based on business requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Translate product and technical requirements into clear, risk-based test scenarios that support reliable delivery.
  • Create and maintain BDD feature files using Cucumber, with well-structured scenarios written in Gherkin syntax.
  • Develop, maintain and improve automated test scripts using Selenium, Playwright or similar automation frameworks.
  • Build automation that is readable, maintainable and aligned with existing framework standards.
  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing, early defect detection and faster delivery feedback.
  • Execute functional, regression, integration and edge-case testing to validate new features, enhancements and fixes.
  • Analyse test failures to distinguish between product defects, automation issues, data issues and environment instability.
  • Identify, log, track and manage defects in Jira, ensuring issues are clearly documented, reproducible and linked to expected outcomes.
  • Partner with developers, product owners, business analysts and DevOps colleagues to clarify requirements and improve testability.
  • Contribute to test data preparation, database validation and SQL-based checks where needed.
  • Support API and integration testing where workflows span multiple services or system components.
  • Improve test framework design, coding standards, reusable utilities and automation reliability.
  • Help reduce flaky tests by improving locators, waits, assertions, data setup and environment assumptions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide practical testing input during refinement, planning, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Share knowledge with other quality engineers and contribute to consistent quality engineering practices across the team.

What we’re looking for

  • 4+ years’ experience in software quality engineering, QA automation or a comparable role, ideally within fintech, financial services technology or enterprise software.
  • Practical experience designing and maintaining automated tests using Selenium, Playwright or similar automation frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Python or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Experience writing automated tests for web-based applications in a commercial software environment.
  • Strong understanding of software testing fundamentals, including test case design, regression testing, exploratory testing and defect lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber and writing feature files using Gherkin syntax.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines or working with automated test execution as part of software delivery.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience using database validation to support testing activities.
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar defect tracking and test management tools.
  • Exposure to API, integration or service-level testing would be useful.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a structured approach to investigating issues.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain defects, risks and test outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively within Agile teams and contribute to planning, refinement and continuous improvement.
  • A practical approach to quality engineering, with the judgement to balance test coverage, delivery timelines and release risk.
  • Willingness to improve frameworks, challenge unclear requirements and support better engineering practices across the team.
