Senior Quality Engineer

About the role

The Quality Engineer is responsible for executing and supporting quality assurance and control processes within ZM Trucks’ commercial vehicle manufacturing operations, including Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) assembly.

This role focuses on in-process quality control, structured problem-solving, supplier quality support, and continuous improvement to ensure that vehicles and components meet defined quality standards and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do

In-Process & Product Quality Control

· Execute quality control activities across:

o Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), End-of-Line (EOL) inspection and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)

· Ensure compliance with inspection standards, control plans, and work instructions

· Monitor production quality performance and escalate issues in a timely manner

· Verify product conformity against specifications prior to release

Problem Solving & Corrective Actions

· Lead and support structured problem-solving activities using:

o 8D Methodology, 5 Why’s Analysis and Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams

· Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for internal defects and process deviations

· Implement and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Process Quality & Continuous Improvement

· Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities

· Support implementation of:

o Error-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions, Process standardization and optimization and Waste reduction initiatives (lead principles)

· Drive improvements in First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduction of rework and scrap

Quality Documentation & Core Tools

· Develop, update, and maintain:

o Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Inspection standards and checklists

· Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities

· Participate in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) preparation and documentation

Supplier Quality Support

· Support incoming material quality control and supplier issue resolution

· Assist with: Supplier inspections and process audits, and Supplier corrective action requests (SCAR) and follow-up

· Monitor supplier quality performance, including PPM and defect trends

Quality Data & Reporting

· Collect, analyze, and report quality data, including:

o Defect Rates, PPM Metrics, and Scrap and Rework Data

· Prepare daily and weekly quality performance reports

· Support KPI tracking and continuous improvement initiatives

Audit & Compliance Support

· Support internal, external, and certification audits (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, regulatory)

· Ensure compliance with established procedures, standards, and documentation requirements

· Maintain audit readiness and support corrective action closure

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Collaborate closely with:

o Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain

· Support real-time resolution of quality issues on the shop floor

· Provide feedback to improve product design and manufacturing processes

Required Skills/Abilities

· Attention to detail and process discipline

· Effective communication and teamwork

· Hands-on, shop-floor oriented approach

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field

· Three years of experience in automotive or manufacturing quality

· Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and SPC)

· Six Sigma Green Belt (or in progress) a plus.

· Experience in a production environment (assembly preferred)

· Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
