Description

The Opportunity

OCU Group is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major electrical infrastructure projects, specialising in substation works and 132kV cable installations.

Based primarily in Wembley, you will support projects valued between £50m and £100m, with the current programme running through to the end of 2028. Ideally, you will also spend one day per week at our Stafford site, working closely with project delivery and commercial teams to ensure effective commercial management across the portfolio.

You will take responsibility for upstream and downstream commercial administration, contract management, cost control and financial performance. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering significant energy infrastructure projects within a growing business.

  • Manage the commercial administration and financial performance of multiple projects, from pre-construction and tender stages through to final account.
  • Support tendering, early contractor involvement (ECI) and feasibility activities, providing commercial input and identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and compliant submission of contractual notices, applications for payment, variations and compensation events.
  • Negotiate and manage variations, compensation events and claims, ensuring appropriate substantiation and commercial recovery.
  • Manage subcontract procurement, tendering, negotiations, contract administration and final accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost forecasts, cash flow projections, budgets and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Monitor project costs, revenue, work in progress, liabilities, contingency and margins, providing clear and accurate commercial reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records and ensure contractual obligations and payment processes are managed effectively.
  • Work closely with project managers and operational teams to monitor programme, procurement, design, delivery and commercial performance.
  • Lead, support and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
Essential
  • Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management role within electrical infrastructure, utilities, power transmission or a similar engineering environment.
  • Experience managing the commercial aspects of projects, including cost control, forecasting, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and experience managing contractual notices, compensation events and claims.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, procurement and commercial negotiations.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present commercial information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience working on high-voltage substations and 132kV cable installation projects.
  • Experience working across multiple projects within the energy transmission and distribution sector.
  • Experience managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors.
  • Familiarity with JCT and other standard forms of contract.
