Role Overview
We are looking for an Senior R&D Engineer to support the development of wireless power and charging technologies. The role covers grant-related work, proof-of-concept prototype development, and coil design activities. The candidate should be hands-on and comfortable working across electrical design, PCB development, embedded/software coding, and wireless power coil design.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Project Documentation
- Support the preparation of grant proposals, technical write-ups, project scopes, milestones, budgets, and deliverables.
- Translate engineering concepts into clear technical documentation for internal stakeholders, grant agencies, and external partners.
- Prepare progress reports, technical summaries, test results, and supporting materials for funded R&D projects.
Proof-of-Concept Prototype Development
- Design, build, and validate proof-of-concept prototypes for wireless power and charging applications.
- Perform electrical design, component selection, circuit bring-up, debugging, and performance testing.
- Develop and maintain prototype test setups, including measurement procedures, fixtures, and validation plans.
PCB and Electrical Design
- Design and review schematics and PCB layouts for power electronics, control circuits, sensing circuits, and wireless charging systems.
- Work with PCB vendors and manufacturing partners to support fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and design revisions.
- Ensure designs consider reliability, manufacturability, thermal performance, EMI/EMC behavior, and system safety.
Embedded / Software Development
- Develop firmware or software for prototype control, monitoring, data acquisition, communication, and test automation.
- Work with microcontrollers, sensors, communication interfaces, and control algorithms as required by the project.
- Support debugging across hardware, firmware, and system integration layers.
Wireless Power Coil Design
- Design, simulate, prototype, and test wireless power coils and magnetic structures.
- Evaluate coil geometry, coupling, efficiency, thermal behavior, alignment tolerance, shielding, and foreign object detection considerations.
- Support optimization of transmitter and receiver coil designs for target power levels, form factors, and application constraints.
Testing, Validation, and Reporting
- Plan and execute experiments to evaluate system performance, efficiency, thermal behavior, electrical safety, and reliability.
- Analyze test data, identify root causes of technical issues, and recommend design improvements.
- Maintain clear engineering records, test reports, design notes, and project documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Hands-on experience in electrical design, PCB development, embedded systems, or power electronics.
- Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, network analyzers, LCR meters, and thermal measurement tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues independently and systematically.
- Good technical writing skills and the ability to prepare clear reports, grant documents, and engineering documentation.
- Strong ownership, practical problem-solving ability, and willingness to work hands-on with prototypes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with wireless power transfer, inductive charging, resonant converters, magnetic design, or power electronics.
- Experience with coil simulation, electromagnetic simulation, or tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, LTspice, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with microcontroller firmware, communication protocols, control loops, or test automation.
- Experience supporting government grants, R&D projects, or collaborative research programs.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations, safety standards, thermal design, and product development workflows.
The ideal candidate is a practical engineer who can move between concept development, hands-on prototyping, testing, documentation, and technical communication. This person should be comfortable with ambiguity, able to learn quickly, and willing to take ownership of prototype development from early investigation through validation.
