Summary
A senior Ruby on Rails engineer builds and maintains scalable, multi-tenant SaaS applications for a US-based partner company, integrating external CRMs and third-party platforms via APIs and webhooks. Day-to-day work spans background jobs (ActiveJob/Sidekiq), data sync, automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and performance optimization.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Rails Developer based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve scalable Ruby on Rails applications in a modern, distributed environment. You will work across multi-tenant architectures and multi-database systems while developing reliable integrations with external platforms. The position combines backend development, data synchronization, background processing, testing, and performance optimization. You will collaborate closely with other developers to deliver new capabilities and solve complex technical challenges. Strong engineering practices, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous improvement are central to the role. Accountabilities:
You will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing Rails applications while contributing to technical quality and reliable integrations across the platform.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails applications within multi-tenant, multi-database environments.
- Develop and optimize integrations with external CRM systems and other third-party platforms using APIs and webhooks.
- Build and maintain background jobs supporting data synchronization, order processing, and outbound workflows.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver new features and resolve technical challenges.
- Write and maintain comprehensive automated tests to ensure application reliability and code quality.
- Apply automated linting and other development quality controls.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Troubleshoot issues and optimize application performance across the technology stack.
- Contribute to CI/CD workflows and continuous improvements to development practices.
- 5+ years of professional experience developing with Ruby on Rails.
- Experience building and maintaining multi-tenant Rails applications and working with database partitioning.
- Strong experience integrating external APIs and managing webhook-based data flows.
- Proficiency with background job frameworks such as ActiveJob and Sidekiq.
- Familiarity with modern Rails development practices, automated testing, and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience with frontend build tools and modern web development practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a development team.
- Experience in event management, e-commerce, or SaaS environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of email marketing platforms and third-party integrations is advantageous.
- Familiarity with containerization and cloud deployment technologies.
