Senior Research and Data Analyst

The Opportunity:

The Research and Implementation Branch is seeking a motivated, innovative, and detail-oriented research professional who loves turning data into practical advice. We are a dynamic team of data experts, project managers, and implementation specialists who work across systems to research and design solutions for pressing issues in the criminal justice and human services systems. The branch operates under a hybrid work model and is situated in the Ministry of Community Safety. It also supports the key strategic priorities of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, and the Ministry of Social Services.

Reporting to the Director of Applied Research and Development, you will help to:

• develop research questions
• identify relevant data to answer those questions
• develop program logic models, performance management frameworks, and program evaluation plans
• conduct ongoing data analysis, trending, and program performance evaluation
• visualize data in easily understood ways
• work collaboratively to interpret results and communicate them in an appropriate format
• build and maintain strong relationships with partners

The skills for this position are typically acquired through a social science Master’s degree with a quantitative research focus. Education must be coupled with at least two years of work experience in a criminal justice research environment. Knowledge of the criminal justice system and GIS software proficiencies (e.g., ArcGIS) would be considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Applicants must:

• Be familiar with quantitative and qualitative research design.
• Have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
• Possess expertise in at least one software analysis tool like SPSS or Power BI.
• Be able to create compelling data visualizations.
