About VivoSense
VivoSense is a science and technology company specializing in digital health technologies (DHTs), including wearable sensors, mobile applications, and connected monitoring tools. We partner with pharmaceutical sponsors, healthcare providers, and academic groups to develop and deliver real-world digital clinical measures backed by rigorous scientific and analytic expertise.
We are looking for an ambitious and highly motivated engineer with a passion for learning, solving complex technical challenges, and working at the intersection of science and software engineering. As a member of a small, collaborative team, you will work closely with Science, Data Science, Product, and Engineering teams to transform scientific innovations into scalable, production-ready platform capabilities.
This role requires someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and developing practical solutions that meet business and user needs. You will help operationalize and commercialize scientific workflows by integrating algorithms, digital measures, and analytical processes into the VivoSense Platform while contributing to architecture, design, implementation, validation, and continuous improvement efforts across the product ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical evaluation and onboarding of new sensors and physiological data sources, including SDK/API assessment, data formats, sampling characteristics, device behavior, and integration requirements.
- Perform physiological and sensor data-quality analysis, including completeness, sampling-rate verification, gaps, anomalies, timing issues, signal quality, and cross-sensor consistency.
- Investigate sensor and data-pipeline issues, working with vendors, Science, and Engineering to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Prototype and validate algorithms and data-processing methods using Python and Jupyter notebooks before production implementation.
- Translate scientific algorithms, research methods, and analytical requirements into clear technical specifications that Engineering can implement on the platform.
- Partner with Engineering to productionize scientific algorithms and sensor-processing workflows, providing domain guidance, reference implementations, expected outputs, and validation criteria.
- Define sensor data models, interfaces, mappings, acceptance criteria, and validation requirements for new integrations and analytical capabilities.
- Support verification and validation of sensor integrations and analytical workflows, including comparison of expected versus platform-generated results.
- Maintain technical documentation covering sensor characteristics, integration requirements, algorithms, data mappings, known limitations, and troubleshooting guidance.
- Monitor changes from sensor vendors, including firmware, SDK, API, algorithm, and data-format changes, and assess their impact on the VivoSense platform.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience working with physiological, wearable, biomedical, clinical, or scientific data.
- Strong Python skills, including experience with Jupyter, pandas, NumPy, SciPy, or similar tools for data analysis and algorithm development.
- Experience with physiological signals such as accelerometry, PPG, ECG, heart rate, HRV, temperature, sleep, or respiration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including investigating ambiguous data-quality or sensor issues and identifying root causes.
- Ability to translate scientific methods and algorithms into technical requirements, reference implementations, and validation criteria.
- Working knowledge of software development practices, data formats, APIs, testing, debugging, and technical documentation.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to move scientific workflows or algorithms into production systems.
- Familiarity with AWS/cloud platforms and distributed data-processing systems is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across Science, Data Science, Product, Quality, Engineering, and external partners.
Nice to have:
- Experience working in regulated healthcare, clinical research, or medical-device environments such as FDA, GxP, ISO 13485, or 21 CFR Part 11.
- Familiarity with C#/.NET, R, cloud platforms, or modern software delivery practices is a plus.
