Senior SDET / Quality Automation Engineer – Python & Basic AI

Senior SDET / Quality Automation Engineer – Python & AI Walter Everett is a recruitment company currently sourcing a Senior SDET / Quality Automation Engineer for a large global consultancy. This is a 99% remote role, however as this is a consultancy so client travel may be required. This is a hands-on Quality Engineering role requiring genuinely strong Python development skills. We are looking for an experienced SDET/QAE who can design and build automation frameworks and engineering solutions from the ground up — rather than a manual tester who has used Python for scripting. What we're looking for: Advanced, hands-on Python coding – essential: Comfortable creating and manipulating objects, working with strings Confident with core data structures — Lists, Sets, Tuples Genuine object-oriented programming understanding You'll be asked to live-code on an IDE, without AI assistance (no Copilot, no ChatGPT, no AI autocomplete) — the client wants to see your own unassisted coding ability and hear you explain your reasoning as you go, the traditional way! Strong SDET / Quality Engineering / test automation experience Experience designing and building automation frameworks Strong OOP fundamentals, data structures and problem-solving skills SQL and ETL experience Web, API and non-functional test automation CI/CD and Git-based development workflows Experience working across the SDLC and with development/product teams Strong communication and stakeholder skills Candidates should be comfortable completing a live Python coding exercise in an IDE without AI assistance, explaining their approach as they work. AI / GenAI Practical exposure to AI-enabled engineering is highly desirable, particularly: RAG and vector search Prompt engineering and LLM evaluation Agentic workflows and tool calling OpenAI / Azure OpenAI LangChain, LangGraph or CrewAI Applying AI to test generation, defect analysis, quality reporting or engineering productivity Experience with Pact, FastAPI/Django, Weaviate, Entra ID or Browser Use would also be useful. Security Clearance The role will require Security Clearance (SC). Candidates should either already hold SC clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
