Senior Security Officer
Summary
Enforces casino security policies, verifies age compliance, trains staff, and responds to incidents on-site in Portsmouth.
Job Description:
Patrols casino premises and/or guards casino posts to maintain safety and security; prevent underage gambling and casino floor access, protect assets and ensure observance of applicable laws and casino regulations. Provides training and guidance when applicable.
Shifts: 7:00am-3:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm, 11:00pm-7:30am
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serve as department trainer for all new team members.
- Provide on the job training and work side by side with new team members.
- Serve as an extension of the leadership team as a resource to provide information and clarification to all team members.
- Provide technical refresher training as needed for existing team members.
- Support new department processes by providing training or pre-shift communication to existing team members.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the training needs of the department.
- In addition to training responsibilities, must maintain current position at a satisfactory level.
- Guards security post and/or patrols internal and external casino property to prevent and respond to security incidents.
- Prevents underage gambling via access to the casino floor by following identification verification procedures.
- Interviews guests and employees when security incidents occur.
- Contacts shift manager and/or supervisor when security situations require intervention beyond scope of authority.
- Obtains assistance for accident victims.
- Assists management and enforcement officers in emergency situations.
- Writes detailed security reports.
- Answers security calls and dispatches officers to assist per departmental standards and protocols.
- Responds to emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 months of security experience required; 6 months or more preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
- Gaming license/registration as required by jurisdiction(s).
- Virginia Unarmed Security License

- Must be able to form and build long-standing relations with established and new guests/players.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with team members and guests.
- Available to work flexible shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary licensing.
- Able to work with others while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to see, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stoop and kneel.
- Must occasionally move and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise, bright lights, smoke, and dust.
