The Senior Server Engineer will be focused on ensuring platforms and systems are maintained and managed to ensure the highest levels of availability.
Reporting to the Head of IT Operations & CISO this role will work closely with Information Technology team members and key business stakeholders to extend current infrastructure capabilities, strengthen VCET’s security posture, and enable new digital capabilities.
Please note this role will be required to be on site 4 days per week initially with potential for 2 days WFH after the first three months
About the role
Providing deep technical expertise across Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, VMware / Nutanix virtual environments, Azure cloud platforms and other server platforms, the Senior Server Engineer will be focused on ensuring platforms and systems are maintained and managed to ensure the highest levels of availability. The Senior Server Engineer will provide direction, mentoring and guidance in the design, implementation and ongoing management of VCET's server, virtualisation and cloud infrastructure, ensuring platforms are secure, resilient and aligned with VCET's ICT strategy and cyber security frameworks.
Key responsibilities
Design, implement and manage enterprise Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments across MCEC and Nyaal Banyul
Administer and optimise VMware/Nutanix virtual infrastructure, including compute, storage, lifecycle and platform management
Manage and evolve Azure cloud platforms, ensuring secure and reliable hybrid infrastructure
Lead patching, hardening and vulnerability remediation across server and infrastructure estates
Provide ongoing support and administration across enterprise infrastructure platforms and applications, including endpoint security, IT service management/helpdesk systems, and other core operational tooling
Own enterprise backup and disaster recovery processes, including regular recovery testing
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to ICT team members on infrastructure design and operations
Partner with the Cyber Security team to strengthen VCET's security posture and align infrastructure with ICT strategy and security frameworks
Monitor platform performance and availability, responding to incidents to minimise disruption to events and business operations
Contribute to infrastructure roadmap, capacity planning and lifecycle management across server and virtualisation platforms
About you
5+ years' experience in enterprise infrastructure or server engineering within a multi-site or multi-venue organisation of comparable scale and complexity to VCET
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and supporting large-scale Windows Server environments, including Active Directory services
Hands-on experience managing VMware and/or Nutanix environments, including compute, storage, lifecycle and platform administration
Experience managing Microsoft 365 workloads, identity platforms and endpoint management solutions
Proven experience with Azure cloud platforms in hybrid infrastructure environments
Demonstrated expertise implementing hardening standards, patching regimes and vulnerability management within regulated environments
Proven experience managing enterprise backup solutions, disaster recovery processes and recovery testing
Relevant industry certification(s), e.g. VMware VCP, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator
Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise platforms and applications including endpoint security, web filtering (e.g. CrowdStrike, Zscaler), ITSM/helpdesk systems, and related infrastructure tooling

The department is made up of five specialist areas: Infrastructure and Network, Cyber Security, Enterprise Applications, Service Management and Projects.
About you:
You have hands on experience building, managing and optimising cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments and extensive experience designing, implementing and supporting large-scale Windows Server environments, including Active Directory services
You have demonstrated strong expertise managing VMware and/or Nutanix environments, including compute, storage, lifecycle and platform administration and capability managing Microsoft workloads, identity platforms and endpoint management solutions
You can demonstrate expertise in implementing hardening standards, patching regimes, vulnerability management and security controls within regulated environments and Proven experience managing enterprise backup solutions, disaster recovery processes and recovery testing
Essential:
