Senior Shopify Backend Developer
Summary
Senior backend developer owning a Shopify Plus ecommerce platform: building custom apps, APIs, webhooks, and integrations with ERP, OMS, inventory, 3PL, CRM, and marketing systems, while assessing technical debt and scalability. Core tech: Shopify Admin/Storefront APIs, GraphQL, REST, Shopify Functions, App Extensions, webhooks. Based in Toronto.
- Own Shopify Plus architecture, custom applications, integrations, APIs, and webhooks.
- Assess the existing platform and identify technical debt, scalability risks, performance issues, and optimization opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a technical roadmap aligned with business growth and operational efficiency.
- Design and manage integrations with ERP, OMS, inventory, 3PL, CRM, subscription, loyalty, and marketing platforms.
- Build scalable solutions using Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, REST APIs, Shopify Functions, - App Extensions, and Webhooks.
- Partner with Ecommerce, Marketing, Operations, and Leadership on build vs. buy, modernization, and platform architecture decisions.
- Ensure the platform is reliable, secure, maintainable, and scalable.
Requirements
5+ years of software/backend development experience, with strong Shopify/Shopify Plus expertise.
Strong experience with Shopify APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, custom apps, and integrations.
Experience designing ecommerce integrations and scalable backend architectures.
Strong understanding of ecommerce operations, order management, inventory, and fulfillment.
Ability to independently assess systems, solve complex technical problems, and drive technical strategy.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
