Senior Site Reliability Engineer
Oracle Health Database Services is seeking a highly experienced, Site Reliability Engineer to lead database reliability engineering across mission-critical healthcare platforms.
This individual-contributor role combines Oracle Database expertise, cloud engineering, automation, AI-assisted operations, and technical project leadership. The successful candidate will deliver measurable improvements in reliability, scalability, performance, operational readiness, and customer experience across database platforms.
This role is ideal for an engineer who can think strategically, execute hands-on, influence technical direction, and help transform traditional database operations into proactive, automated, engineering-led reliability practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and improve database availability, performance, capacity, security, backup and recovery, and operational readiness.
- Lead complex production incident triage, mitigation, root-cause analysis, and preventive actions to reduce repetitive incidents.
- Define and improve operational standards, including runbooks, readiness reviews, escalation paths, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and service-health reporting.
- Identify repetitive operational work and build automation to reduce manual toil and operational risk.
- Lead strategic reliability initiatives, including OCI migrations, Exadata modernization, Autonomous Database adoption, database performance remediation, capacity planning, and GoldenGate reliability improvements.
- Build or enhance API-driven automation, health checks, monitoring, capacity forecasting, and self-service engineering workflows.
- Apply AI-assisted engineering practices to improve incident response, knowledge discovery, runbook automation, health checks, capacity analysis, and operational reporting.
- Partner with Customer Success, Infrastructure, Application, Security, Cloud Operations, and Product Engineering teams to address cross-functional reliability risks.
- Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and promote strong software engineering and SRE practices.
- Lead complex engineering initiatives independently, from architecture and planning through delivery and production readiness.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA, Database Reliability Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, Production Engineer, Oracle GoldenGate or similar role supporting business-critical services.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and automation or orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, or equivalent.
- Strong technical judgment, problem-solving ability, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects involving dependencies, risks, milestones, and executive-ready status reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical designs, runbooks, post-incident reviews, and operational updates.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OCI, Exadata, Oracle Autonomous Database, Data Guard, GoldenGate, or large-scale cloud database services.
- Experience defining SLIs, SLOs, alerting standards, capacity models, reliability scorecards, and service-health metrics.
- Experience creating API-driven automation, internal tools, self-service workflows, or engineering platforms.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted operations, agent-based workflows, MCP/API integrations, retrieval-based knowledge systems, or data and metrics pipelines.
- Experience applying AI responsibly within security, data-access, and change-control requirements.
- Experience supporting healthcare, regulated environments, or customer-facing enterprise platforms
