Senior Software Architect

Salary: £80,000 - 90,000 per year

• A working knowledge of industrial protocols such as OPC and common field buses would be an advantage.
• Security-first thinking, with software designed with cyber resilience in mind from the outset, would be particularly valued.
• We are looking for someone with a long-term mindset; frequent short tenures are unlikely to suit.
• We require the role to be based on site in Royston, Cambridge, three days per week, with no fully remote arrangement.
• The position is permanent and intended as a long-term appointment.

• We want you to define how our entire software platform should look across every component, including the data management strategy.
• We need you to take ownership of the software vision and steer it forward.
• You will understand our two mature software platforms in depth, including how they are constructed, why they were built that way, and where their strengths and liabilities lie.
• You will decide the way forward for the platforms, including whether to extend what works or define a new platform.
• You will work closely with product management, hardware leads, and technology leads to define the software roadmap and the platforms future.
• You will take line management responsibility for the software team and, in time, software colleagues based in another country.
• You will partner with a technical lead elsewhere to determine, on a global basis, what gets built and how.
• You will engage directly with customers where appropriate and translate customer needs into clear software requirements.
• You will balance what is exposed to the customer against what is automated beneath the surface to keep the product straightforward to use.
• You will act as the technical figurehead for the software team and set direction while bringing colleagues with you.

This is a collaborative role based in Royston, Cambridge, with hybrid working from home available and three days per week on site.
