Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced developer and data engineer to build and evolve data warehouse, data lake, lakehouse, and analytics solutions on the Microsoft data platform. The role is hands-on: designing data models, building ELT/ETL pipelines using the Medallion Architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold), and delivering reliable, well-modeled data products on Microsoft Fabric and Azure SQL.
As a data engineer you will build resilient data pipelines and create visibility into data quality issues, building client trust in their data and our ability to deliver dependable solutions. You will work with clients directly to understand their data sources, governance and security requirements, and the nature of their business. You will build data pipelines and position data for analytics matching our client’s current capabilities to query and leverage the data, but also design the scalable, secure architecture needed to set them up for the future and AI.
Your expertise will be critical in shaping our clients' data strategy, driving architectural decisions, and mentoring team members to deliver scalable and reliable data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and deploy scalable Data Lakehouse environments utilizing Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks tailored to mid-sized to enterprise client business requirements.
- Drive the implementation of the Medallion Architecture patterns (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) to optimize data quality, governance, and reporting performance.
- Engineer resilient, production grade ELT/ETL data pipelines equipped with robust observability, automated monitoring, and low operational overhead.
- Design and implement dimensional data models (facts, conformed dimensions, and optimized aggregations) structured specifically for high-performance BI, reporting, and downstream analytics.
- Partner with ATG technical leads and client stakeholders to drive end-to-end solution delivery through leading KPI discovery, source system analysis (REST APIs, databases, ODBC), architectural design, and production deployment
- Champion end-to-end data quality and pipeline reliability by establishing automated testing, validation frameworks, continuous monitoring, and comprehensive technical documentation.
- AI Readiness: Prepare and structure enterprise data for AI enablement by leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI Search, and metadata enrichment to feed AI orchestration platforms such as Azure AI Foundry.
- Consulting: Serve as a trusted client advisor who translates complex data architectures into clear business value.
- Lead discovery workshops to drive Bronze-to-Silver source mapping and interview stakeholders to design custom Gold data marts.
- Proactively research and propose technical solutions bringing well-reasoned options and trade-off analyses, not just questions.
- Technical Leadership: Champion engineering excellence and thought leadership, establishing best practices across the team for readable, maintainable, performant, and secure data pipelines.
Core Technical Stack:
- Data Lakehouse Platforms: Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Delta Lake
- Languages: Python (Advanced), SQL (Expert)
- Transformation & Modeling: Dimensional Modeling (Kimball), Medallion Architecture
- Orchestration & Integration: Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, Azure Data Factory, REST APIs, ODBC/JDBC
- DevOps & Engineering: Git, CI/CD (GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps), Automated Testing Frameworks
- Data Quality & Observability: Pipeline logging, alerting, and automated validation tools
Required Experience & Skills:
- 5+ years of Data Engineering experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and deploying enterprise Data Lakehouse architectures.
- Hands-on expertise in Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks, including practical experience implementing Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) in production environments.
- Deep proficiency in Python and advanced SQL for building scalable, high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines and complex data transformations.
- Strong experience with a scriptable approach to maintain modular, version-controlled, and thoroughly tested transformation pipelines.
- Mastery of dimensional modeling principles — expert ability to design facts, conformed dimensions, and performant data marts for business reporting and BI.
- Adherence to software engineering best practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD release automation, code reviews, and robust pipeline monitoring.
Professional and Consulting Skills:
- Client Management Skills:
- Proven ability to lead discovery sessions, map complex source systems, explain trade-offs to stakeholders, and translate business KPIs into technical designs
- Document requirements, data flows, and system architecture
- Estimate effort accurately and communicate blockers or timeline risks proactively
- Team player:
- Champion best practices for readable, maintainable, performant, and secure code
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the team
- Manage your time effectively and communicate technical trade-offs clearly
- Detail oriented: ability to understand and business processes & data
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Snowflake, Power BI, PySpark, dbt
- Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and cataloging (Microsoft Purview)
- dotnet or Python Django Web Application and RESTful API development
- Azure & AWS infrastructure, Terraform
- Experience with AEC data including Autodesk APS and Autodesk Forma
Benefits:
- Health, Dental and Vision Benefits
- Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
- Wellness Programs
