Senior Software Development Engineer
About the Role: The Senior Software Development Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining embedded software solutions for Aviat transport products. This role combines strong software engineering capabilities with knowledge of Linux-based embedded systems and networking technologies. The candidate will quickly become a productive member of a development team, contribute to the delivery of customer value through feature development and defect resolution and take ownership of software components throughout the software lifecycle. The role also requires active participation in technical planning, estimation, architecture discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and maintain embedded software solutions in high-level languages (mostly C/C++).
- Analyse requirements and translate them into high-quality software designs and implementations.
- Own the delivery of software features and defect resolution within assigned product areas.
- Participate in development support activities, including planning, refinement, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Contribute to software quality through code reviews, testing, automation, and adherence to development standards.
- Collaborate with software, systems, hardware, QA and DevOps teams to support successful product delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in software quality, engineering practices, and development efficiency.
- Mentor and support junior engineers while contributing positively to the team culture.
Qualifications & Competencies:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong programming skills in C and/or C++.
- Experience developing software on Linux-based platforms.
- Understanding of software architecture and design principles.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex or Gemini) and effective prompt engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred:
- Experience with embedded systems development.
- Knowledge of networking technologies and communication protocols.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with Git, Jira and modern software development toolchains.
- Experience with telecommunications, transport networking, or related domains.
