Senior Software Development Engineer
Summary
Senior engineer building search and discovery experiences for domain names using React, Node.js, and AI tools, owning projects end-to-end with a focus on performance and scalability.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer based in Canada.
This is a fully remote, hands-on engineering role focused on building high-impact search and discovery experiences used by millions of customers.
You’ll join a small, fast-moving team responsible for helping users find relevant domain names and products.
The role combines modern frontend development with backend capabilities, experimentation, observability, and production ownership.
You’ll lead projects end-to-end, from defining the problem and designing the solution through launch, measurement, and ongoing optimization.
You’ll also help improve engineering velocity through automation, reusable patterns, and AI-assisted development practices.
Beyond individual delivery, you’ll influence technical direction, mentor peers, and raise the quality bar across the team.
The position offers the autonomy of a remote environment with opportunities to occasionally connect with colleagues in person.
Accountabilities:
- Build and ship modern frontend experiences that help customers discover the right domain names, including search relevance, smart alternatives, favorites, and AI-enabled features.
- Lead engineering projects from problem definition and technical design through implementation, launch, measurement, and production ownership.
- Develop reliable, scalable web applications using modern engineering practices and maintain a strong focus on performance and user experience.
- Improve development workflows by creating internal tools, automation, reusable patterns, and processes that enable the team to ship more efficiently.
- Contribute to technical architecture and direction, making thoughtful trade-offs across product requirements, engineering quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools effectively to accelerate coding, debugging, learning, and problem-solving while maintaining sound engineering judgment.
- Work with experimentation platforms to support A/B and multivariate testing, using data and customer outcomes to guide product improvements.
- Monitor and improve production systems through deployment practices, CI/CD, observability, performance profiling, and operational ownership.
- Mentor and support fellow engineers through technical guidance, collaboration, code quality, and knowledge sharing.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering standards and advocate for better technical approaches when they can create meaningful customer or business impact.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong track record of delivering production-quality software.
- Advanced experience building modern web applications with React, JavaScript, and Node.js.
- Practical experience with deployment, CI/CD, observability, and owning software systems in production.
- Experience working with experimentation platforms, including A/B testing or multivariate testing, and using results to inform product decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects independently, from initial problem definition through technical implementation, launch, measurement, and ongoing ownership.
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar solutions, combined with strong judgment around their appropriate use.
- Familiarity with technologies such as AWS, GitHub Actions, Webpack, Artifactory, or comparable engineering and deployment tooling is an advantage.
- Experience with client-side and server-side performance profiling, including real-user monitoring (RUM), is a plus.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and help other engineers succeed.
- Interest in developing broader technical leadership or people leadership capabilities is welcomed.
- A proactive, pragmatic mindset and willingness to challenge assumptions, improve existing practices, and continuously learn are important for success.
- Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every qualification, as transferable skills, diverse experiences, and potential are valued.
- Competitive salary: CAD $128,500–$192,500, with starting compensation determined by relevant skills, experience, and geographic location.
- Performance opportunity: Eligibility for a discretionary cash bonus of up to 15% of base salary based on individual and company performance.
- Equity opportunity: The role may be eligible to participate in an equity plan.
- Remote work: Fully remote position with occasional opportunities to meet with the team in person.
