Our client is a high-profile NSW Government organisation investing in modern software engineering and AI-enabled digital products.
They are seeking two Senior Software Engineers to join a growing engineering team supporting both AI-enabled products and broader software development initiatives.
This is not a pure AI/ML or RAG role. The priority is a strong software engineer who can use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining accountability for code quality, architecture and production outcomes.
Role Description
The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop and deliver production-quality software while contributing to architecture, engineering standards and responsible AI-assisted development.
You will work across multiple projects, collaborate with technical and business teams, and use modern AI coding tools to accelerate delivery without compromising engineering quality.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop modern applications, APIs and backend services.
- Deliver software end-to-end from design through testing, deployment and production.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
- Review, test and validate AI-generated code and maintain accountability for the outcome.
- Apply strong software engineering principles, clean code and modern architecture.
- Contribute to Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture and SOLID practices.
- Develop automated tests and maintain software quality.
- Work with databases, APIs, cloud platforms and application integrations.
- Contribute to CI/CD, DevOps, automation and operational improvements.
- Manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to engineering standards and responsible AI development practices.
- Strong commercial experience as a Senior Software Engineer delivering production applications.
- Strong programming experience in Python, Node.js, JavaScript, .NET or another modern language.
- Demonstrated end-to-end software development and production delivery.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and modern architecture.
- Experience with Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, SOLID or equivalent.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted/agentic coding tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
- Ability to guide, review and validate AI-generated code rather than relying on AI for engineering decisions.
- Cloud experience using AWS and/or Azure.
- REST API and database experience.
- Automated testing and CI/CD experience.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and changing priorities.
DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS/Azure production experience, and experience developing AI-enabled, RAG or agentic solutions.
Government, enterprise or regulated environment experience will also be advantageous.
