Senior Software Engineer - AI Platform for the Great Wealth Transfer
About The Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team and own major systems end to end. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to own every surface our families and attorneys touch, end to end. You'll work directly with the founding team and alongside our Head of Engineering: no layers, no handoffs, your code is the product people use on the hardest weeks of their lives.
This seat has real scope: two products, one estate record. The family portal and the attorney portal are permission-scoped views of the same canonical data, and you'll own both from onboarding through payment through court-ready output. Meaningful equity comes with that responsibility.
The problem
When someone passes, their family inherits a second job: legal, financial, and institutional records scattered across dozens of systems that were never built to talk to each other, half of which still want a mailed document or fax. We turn that chaos into an organized estate.
What we produce gets filed with courts and lands in the hands of grieving families. A wrong value isn't a bug ticket, it's a rejected petition and weeks of delay for a grieving family. Data integrity here isn't a QA step. It's the architecture: every value traceable to its source, every record defensible in court.
If you've been craving problems with real human impact instead of another B2B SaaS or CRM tool, this is it.
What you'll build
- Integrations with banks, government systems, and data aggregators, stitched into one real-time view of a family's estate
- Backend and data platforms for financial assets and document intake, built to ship securely with sensitive data
- LLM-driven extraction with provenance and confidence, and entity resolution across gloriously messy, multi-source data
- The family portal and attorney dashboard as paired renderings of one estate record: when a family adds an heir, the attorney's grid lights up in the same commit
- Onboarding and multi-session flows for an audience that skews 40+ and grieving, where execution quality is conversion
What we're looking for
- You've shipped systems where being wrong had consequences: money moved, records filed, care delivered
- You've been early somewhere and shipped whole products end to end, not features into someone else's architecture
- Strong across the stack: meticulous in React and TypeScript, comfortable in Python, and you've built payment flows where the backend logic mattered as much as the screen
- You sweat the last pixel because the person on the other side is having the worst week of their life
- High-conviction, low-ego: you'd rather find what's right than win the argument
How we work
We are a small, high-trust team. We care deeply about the people we serve, move quickly, communicate directly, and hold a high bar for the quality of the experience we deliver.
The work here is highly collaborative. The best ideas often come from being close to the details: a family conversation, a product gap, an operational edge case, or a partner need. We expect people to take ownership of outcomes, pull in the right teammates, and turn what they learn into better systems for everyone.
Location and expectations
his is a full-time role based in New York City (NoMad) with the rest of the team. This is high-ownership work, and we're upfront that families and courts don't always operate on business hours.
Additional benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
Equal opportunity
Elayne is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate qualified applicants based on ability, experience, and potential, and do not discriminate on the basis of any protected characteristic under applicable federal, state, or local laws.
