Role Overview:
We're growing a new AI engineering team in Sydney that owns Enrich — our AI data-enrichment product for finding, identifying and codifying data in unstructured documents — and builds new AI and agentic capability into the Nuix Neo platform. Our stack is Java, Python and React/TypeScript/MUI, shipping across SaaS and on-prem.
As a Senior Software Engineer you're a strong individual contributor who takes features from design to done, raises the bar on non-functional quality (security, performance, DevOps), and helps the team's more junior engineers grow. You'll work across a cross-timezone team and collaborate closely with product, architecture and data science.
You’d join as a senior engineer who has already shipped AI-backed software and wants to keep doing it at product scale.
Location:
This position will be based in our Sydney office. The candidate is required to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week but may voluntarily elect to work either remotely or from the Sydney office for the remaining 2 days of the week
Key Responsibilities
Own significant features and epics end to end across Enrich and the agentic work: design, build, test and ship.
Improve and extend an established ML product codebase, with pragmatic changes over unnecessary rewrites.
Help shape how we design, evaluate and ship AI agents in the platform.
Raise the bar on security, performance and DevOps, including secure-by-design code review on complex PRs.
Contribute to architecture discussions by asking questions, challenging approaches and helping define the target state.
Collaborate with colleagues across product, architecture and data science, and across time zones.
Mentor and support mid-level, associate and graduate engineers.
Contribute to how we design, evaluate and ship AI agents and agentic capability in the platform.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
Typically 7+ years' software engineering experience (framework minimum for Senior is 5+), with a demonstrated track record of delivering complex work end-to-end.
Strong backend Java and experience with production experience in Spring framework; and/or React/TypeScript; full-stack capability valued.
Commercial experience building, maintaining and operating an AI-backed product that you’ve shipped. This could be agentic, ML, LLM-backed features, or a combination. We’re looking for people who have kept it running in production, not just built it.
Comfort working alongside data scientists and ML-backed components.
You build software with AI tools in your own engineering workflow and can speak confidently about what works and what doesn’t.
Good engineering judgement, clear communication, and a willingness to mentor in a distributed team.
Experience that would be valuable
Both agentic and classic ML experience in a product.
Python in production, and NLP, search or document-intelligence experience.
Kubernetes, Docker and AWS, plus CI/CD (e.g. Jenkins) and a strong automated-testing practice.
React/TypeScript for full-stack work.
