Senior Software Engineer, AI
Are you passionate about building AI-driven software that transforms how professionals work?
Join our fast-moving, forward-thinking group that is creating AI-driven software for professionals through our investigative platform, CLEAR (Consolidated Lead Evaluation and Reporting), which empowers users to search and analyze billions of public and proprietary records from a unified interface. We invest deeply in AI technologies and explore emerging fields with the backing of Thomson Reuters, a global leader. As a Senior Software Engineer, AI, you will play a hands-on role in full-stack web development, focusing on AI solutions, agents, and RAG, as well as traditional application layers such as gateways, APIs, and user interfaces—building intelligent systems that power the next generation of expert solutions across legal, tax, risk, and compliance domains.
About the Role
In this opportunity as a Senior Software Engineer, AI, you will:
Build and ship AI-driven systems — Contribute to the design and implementation of enterprise-scale AI systems, including multi-component pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and autonomous AI agents with multi-step reasoning; develop full-stack features from AI orchestration and RAG through API gateways, microservices, and modern web UIs, in partnership with tech leads and architects.
Explore and apply emerging AI practices — Evaluate and help adopt new AI techniques; contribute to proof-of-concept work and technical feasibility for AI-driven features; stay current with AI research and apply practical insights to implementation; optionally participate in internal tech talks or community learning.
Provide technical depth and collaboration — Participate in architecture and design discussions; translate business requirements into clear technical approaches alongside your team; mentor and support other engineers; follow and help improve MLOps and LLMOps practices for the AI model lifecycle.
Ensure quality, security, and operational excellence — Implement testing, monitoring, and observability for AI systems; follow ethical AI, security, and regulatory requirements; support governance for AI model lifecycle management in production.
Partner across disciplines — Work closely with AI researchers, engineering leadership, design, and product to turn AI capabilities into market-leading applications; optimize performance for latency, cost, and user experience; bring strong technical judgment to roadmap and feature discussions.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Senior Software Engineer, AI if you have the following required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience, and 5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years hands-on building production AI/ML or GenAI features (RAG, LLMs, agents, or similar)—as a software engineer, not primarily as a data scientist or ML researcher.
Proven track record delivering software with AI expertise, including experience across the lifecycle: solution discovery, architecture, tooling, evaluation, deployment, operations, and metrics.
Strong proficiency in Java/Spring Boot for backend services and APIs; hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js) and full-stack web application development; experience building production RESTful APIs, microservices, and API gateways; solid understanding of web security, authentication/authorization, and API design.
Strong proficiency in Python and practical experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX); solid understanding of ML principles, evaluation methodologies, and distributed systems; experience with MLOps/LLMOps and shipping AI capabilities to production.
Hands-on experience with AWS and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform); ability to integrate AI models into production systems via APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-native architectures.
Strong collaboration skills; clear written and verbal communication; ability to work independently on complex problems and align with team priorities.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
Experience on teams building AI-driven systems, agent-based architectures, or enterprise integrations with AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
Strong knowledge of vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, and information retrieval; domain familiarity with legal, tax, accounting, or regulated industries (e.g., investigative or large-scale search platforms).
Track record contributing to AI product launches and scaling AI systems for enterprise use; exposure to AI governance, model risk management, or regulatory compliance; publications, patents, or speaking experience in AI/ML.
