Senior Software Engineer (AU HealthTech, WFH)
Description
Schedule: Australian Time (7am-4pm PHT)
Type of Employment: 6 months contract
What you'll be doing?
- Own delivery of milestones: Design, build, and ship end-to-end features on a core PHP/Laravel platform, moving projects from technical design through to production release.
- Help run the development team: Work alongside the Full-Stack Developer to coordinate a small engineering team—breaking down tasks in Jira, managing sprint priorities, and managing multiple concurrent milestones.
- Raise the engineering quality bar: Lead code reviews, enforce high code standards, and modernize legacy PHP toward clean, framework-based Laravel patterns.
- Maintain production stability: Take ownership of performance, security, and overall reliability for systems that clients depend on daily.
- Mentor and support peers: Pair with and guide less-experienced developers through code reviews and clear technical guidance.
- Leverage AI tools: Use modern AI coding tools to accelerate development while applying critical judgment to verify accuracy before deploying to production.
- Engage with stakeholders: Communicate directly with internal team members and non-technical clients to clarify requirements, discuss technical trade-offs, and turn briefs into clear designs.
What we're looking for?
- 5+ years of professional PHP experience with deep hands-on expertise in Laravel (or strong core PHP skills with a proven track record of framework-based development).
- Strong core tech stack: Proficiency in MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and building/integrating third-party and custom APIs (PostgreSQL experience is a plus).
- Technical leadership skills: Experience coordinating or leading small development teams or serving as a senior technical point of reference.
- Delivery-focused mindset: Demonstrated ability to estimate, sequence, and take full accountability for project milestones.
- Practical AI tool experience: Daily professional use of AI coding assistants, paired with strong critical evaluation skills.
- Excellent communication skills: Capability to break down complex technical topics into plain language for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Domain interest or experience: Previous experience or strong interest in healthcare, pharmacy, or patient-management data systems.
- Collaborative & accountable mindset: A strong sense of ownership to build, maintain, and support products end-to-end.
