Summary
Senior backend engineer on Squarespace's Databases team (Infrastructure Foundations) in Dublin, maintaining and scaling core backend infrastructure such as MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka on GCP, and building automation and tooling. Hybrid role: 3 days in the Dublin office, 2 days from home.
Squarespace Dublin is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for our Databases team within Infrastructure Foundations. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring Squarespace's infrastructure operates seamlessly and reliably for our product engineering stakeholders and millions of customers. You'll maintain key backend infrastructure powering the Squarespace platform and build automation + tooling to help scale our infrastructure. Focusing on developing against our backend tech stack composed of components such as MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka, you'll be responsible for designing, architecting, and provisioning new infrastructure to help unlock new product functionality.
The job is hybrid in our Dublin Office: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home. You will report to the Databases Engineering Team Manager.
You’ll Get To…
- Develop automation that interacts with our infrastructure in the GCP cloud.
- Drive performance improvements and enhance scalability for infrastructure in components like MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across all of SQSP on building new services that scale for the future.
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and professional development by participating in technical design reviews and mentoring junior team members.
- Work in: MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka to name a few of our most commonly used infra components.
Who We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience developing backend systems with GoLang or similar object-oriented programming languages.
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, databases, and software design principles.
- Experience with GoLang, document, and relational databases
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and messaging tools (e.g., Kafka).
- BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven ability to take technical ownership, lead large, complex projects, and influence architectural direction across teams.

Cash Compensation Range: €93,000 - €143,000 EUR
The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.
In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
