Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Builds and scales Databricks' backend infrastructure and serverless platform for big data, ML, and GenAI workloads across multi-cloud environments.

At Databricks, we enable data teams to solve tough problems. The role is a backend software engineer focusing on building infrastructure and products for the Databricks platform at scale.
The Impact You’ll Have
- Serverless platform: Build the Databricks serverless platform that powers big data, machine learning and Gen AI workloads, improving performance and efficiency and ensuring they scale to millions of machines across a multi-cloud environment.
- Core cloud platform: Build cutting‑edge OS, container, and networking technologies that power the entire Databricks infrastructure, improving security, efficiency and reliability across the fleet.
- Partner ecosystem: Build and grow a partner ecosystem for Databricks SQL, offering toolkits to support partners and customers’ deep and seamless integrations, while maintaining productive partnerships.
- Notebook dataplane: Build multi‑language, multi‑user collaborative REPL experience for Databricks users with high reliability and responsiveness, focusing on Data Science and AI/ML authoring in notebooks.
- Application platform: Build tools, frameworks and platforms that allow Databricks engineers to build, deploy and operate services with "batteries included", improving scale, observability, safety, and the developer experience.
What We Look For
- BS (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of production‑level experience in one of: Java, Scala, Golang, C++, or a similar language
- Experience developing large‑scale distributed systems
- Experience with SaaS platforms or Service‑Oriented Architectures
- Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Kubernetes
- Experience with security and systems that handle sensitive data
Pay Range
Local pay range: $157,700—$213,800 USD. Compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.
