Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) based in the United States.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced backend engineer to build scalable cloud-based solutions that power mission-critical business operations. In this role, you will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to transform complex requirements into reliable, high-performing software. You'll contribute throughout the entire development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to testing and optimization, while mentoring fellow engineers and promoting engineering excellence. Working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, you'll help deliver innovative products that create meaningful value for customers while influencing technical direction and best practices across the organization.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and applications that deliver reliable, high-quality user experiences.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including solution design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Evaluate architectural approaches, provide implementation estimates, and recommend scalable solutions for new features and enhancements.
• Ensure application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability through high engineering standards and code quality practices.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of new product features, from initial concept through production release and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement while supporting business growth through technology.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Java and SQL-based relational databases such as MySQL.
• Proven experience designing and implementing scalable applications and backend services within modern software environments.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and application performance optimization.
• Experience working in Agile development environments with cross-functional product and engineering teams.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with the capacity to navigate ambiguity and deliver practical, scalable solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with a product-focused mindset.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor teammates and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.
• Experience with JavaScript and React is a plus.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services is considered an advantage.
• Candidates must be located within the Eastern, Central, or Mountain Time Zones of the United States.
