Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
Summary
Build and lead backend systems in Scala/Java on AWS, designing scalable APIs and services while mentoring engineers and shaping technical standards.
Key Focus
- Backend Engineering: Design and build server-side systems, APIs, and data services with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Technical Leadership: Contribute to architecture decisions and drive best practices across languages like Scala/Java and cloud platforms such as AWS.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain scalable, resilient backend systems
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers
- Contribute to system design and architectural direction
- Ensure quality through code reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
- Write and review technical documentation (design docs, RFCs, RCAs)
- Mentor engineers and support a strong, inclusive team culture
- Participate in on-call rotation for production systems
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years’ experience in software engineering
- Strong proficiency in at least one programming language
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems in the cloud
- Deep understanding of APIs, scalability, and system performance
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others
- Experience with production systems, observability, and incident response
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS (compute, storage, serverless)
- Scala and/or functional programming expertise
- Experience shaping engineering standards and best practices
