Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Summary

Build and lead backend systems in Scala/Java on AWS, designing scalable APIs and services while mentoring engineers and shaping technical standards.

Key Focus

  • Backend Engineering: Design and build server-side systems, APIs, and data services with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Technical Leadership: Contribute to architecture decisions and drive best practices across languages like Scala/Java and cloud platforms such as AWS.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain scalable, resilient backend systems
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers
  • Contribute to system design and architectural direction
  • Ensure quality through code reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
  • Write and review technical documentation (design docs, RFCs, RCAs)
  • Mentor engineers and support a strong, inclusive team culture
  • Participate in on-call rotation for production systems

What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years’ experience in software engineering
  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems in the cloud
  • Deep understanding of APIs, scalability, and system performance
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others
  • Experience with production systems, observability, and incident response
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AWS (compute, storage, serverless)
  • Scala and/or functional programming expertise
  • Experience shaping engineering standards and best practices
