A growing Sydney software company with a multi-tenant SaaS platform used by large organisations. The team is scaling the platform to many more customers and adding AI-powered features on top.
The opportunity
They are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own the core of the platform: a multi-tenant, security-sensitive product built on Laravel, MySQL and Postgres, running on containers in the cloud. You will make the architecture decisions that let the platform scale, and set the standard for how backend code is designed, reviewed and shipped.
What you will work on
- Moving legacy server-rendered views to clean, well-tested APIs for the frontend team
- Multi-tenant data architecture and query performance at scale
- Security and privacy built in from the start: auth, PII handling, penetration-test fixes
- Safe, repeatable releases: migrations, rollbacks and CI/CD
- Observability that catches problems before customers do
- The data and API layers behind AI-powered product features
- Technical direction and code review for the whole team, including offshore engineers
You will have
- Strong commercial PHP and Laravel experience, or deep experience in a comparable backend framework and a real appetite to go all-in on Laravel
- TypeScript and Vue.js experience
- Solid database skills: schema design, indexing, query optimisation, safe migrations
- Experience designing and evolving REST APIs for a multi-tenant SaaS product
- A security-first, test-first mindset
