Description

Overview:

CHAMP Cargosystems provides the most comprehensive range of integrated IT solutions and distribution services for the air cargo transport chain. The portfolio spans core management systems, messaging services, and eCargo solutions. These include applications to meet customs and security requirements, quality optimization as well as e-freight and mobility needs. The products and services are well known under the Cargospot and Traxon brands.

The company serves over 200 airlines and GSAs, and links these with some 3,000 forwarders and GHAs worldwide. CHAMP’s solutions help its customers and their clients adapt to critical and continuous changes in air transport logistics to meet global trade demands.

CHAMP Cargosystems is headquartered in Luxembourg and operates offices in London, Zurich, Frankfurt, Manila, Singapore and Atlanta.

We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team.

The role will be reporting to the Development Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Achieve a thorough understanding of CHAMP products.

  • Work closely with project managers/product owners, team leads, business analysts, technical support, and other software engineers involved with the development of CHAMP integrated solutions or other application systems.

  • Perform multiple roles such as system analyst/designer, developer, tester, and technical support as may be required in meeting the application development schedule and the overall project plan.

  • Mentor software engineers, including in using AI effectively and responsibly, and ensure compliance with software engineering standards.

  • Translate design specifications into clean, efficient code, following the Company’s software engineering methodology and standards.

  • Champion good code quality practices towards reliable, performant, and maintainable solutions.

  • Actively participate in regular business and technical discussions on project updates and in resolving technical issues.

  • Write unit tests and assist in the preparation of the project documentation.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of systems migration activities.

  • Provide off-site or on-site technical support on production systems.

  • Ensure that all programs and problems are correctly reflected in all status reports.

  • Turn your knowledge of CHAMP products into material that agents and engineers can rely on captured business rules, exceptions and what must not break as specifications and characterization tests, especially ahead of migration activities.

  • · Lead AI-assisted work on larger changes to existing systems: plan it, orchestrate agents in steps that can be verified, and review the results with the same rigor as any other change.

  • · Shape how the team works with agents on the existing codebase (project instructions, reusable workflows, review standards and guardrails such as tests, CI checks and tool permissions), and check that AI improves quality and delivery, not just speed.

  • · Use AI to speed up production support, such as analyzing logs and tracing issues across modules and integrations, while making sure customer data never goes into tools that are not approved for it.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be competent in Java coding best practices and design patterns with proven SQL skills.

  • Expertise using the following frameworks or technologies is a plus: Spring Boot, JPA, REST API, XML, Swing, RMI, Hibernate, EJB, Angular, Ionic, IBM MQ, Kafka.

  • Experienced with version control (Git or SVN) and build tools such as Maven or Ant.

  • Good SQL skills on relational databases (Oracle DBMS, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL); knowledge of MongoDB is a plus.

  • Experience in SCRUM and DevOps practices is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Good command of the English language is a must.

  • Extensive hands-on experience delivering production software with AI coding agents, including on large, long-lived codebases, and a clear view of where they add value and where they do not.

  • Strong command of context engineering, spec-driven development and harness engineering: structuring the context, instructions, tools and feedback loops that let agents work reliably on a real codebase.

  • Experience orchestrating agents on multi-step work (planning, parallel tasks, review and verification loops) and the judgment to recognize when a task is better done by hand.

  • Solid understanding of the risks of AI-generated code and agent tooling (code that does not fit older Java versions or frameworks, subtle business-logic errors, eroding test quality, invented or insecure dependencies, prompt injection, licensing questions, exposure of sensitive data) and how to mitigate them.

  • Ability to design reliable AI-powered features with appropriate evaluation, monitoring, fallback behavior and human review, keeping cost, latency and data protection in mind.

Experience and Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Java development.

  • A track record of introducing AI-assisted practices in a team or on a real project, with concrete results you can walk us through: what changed, how you measured it and what you would do differently.

Security : the successful candidate will have to comply with CHAMP Security Requirements (including but not limited to CHAMP’s IT Security Policies, especially the ISMS Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy, mandatory courses, confidentiality and data protection, use of company assets, and incident reporting).
