Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Platform Foundations
Summary
Senior engineer on the Cloud Platform Foundations team building and operating the core infrastructure behind Temporal Cloud: high availability/disaster recovery, control plane automation, database scaling, and CI/CD pipelines. Primary stack is Go with Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and other data stores like ClickHouse and Redshift.
Summary
The Cloud Platform Foundations team builds and operates the core infrastructure behind Temporal Cloud, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and automation. The team owns foundational systems including high availability and disaster recovery, control plane automation, resource and namespace management, and the customer-facing interfaces that shape how users integrate with the platform—from our APIs and CLI to the Terraform provider, SDKs, and Kubernetes operator.
In this role, you'll build systems that directly strengthen Temporal Cloud's resilience, performance, and developer experience. You'll work closely with engineers and product managers to automate critical operations, evolve our multi-tenant control plane, reduce blast radius, improve namespace density, and build safer CI/CD pipelines. If you enjoy solving ambiguous, high-leverage infrastructure problems and creating durable tools that help both customers and engineers move faster, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) — Enabling continuous regional failover and improving platform resilience.
Control Plane Automation — Automating operations to improve reliability and developer efficiency.
Database Performance and Optimization: Our data layer is scaling beyond its current limits. We need someone who can scale it by orders of magnitude while holding the line on latency, reliability, and availability.
Deployment Plane: As our deploy frequency and engineering headcount both climb, we own redesigning the path from commit to production, drawing on strong infrastructure, deployment tooling, and systems design expertise.
CI/CD for Control Plane — Building reliable pipelines for safer rollouts, faster iteration, and better test coverage.
Technology Stack
Primary Language: Go
Data Storage: PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redshift, S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage
Data Processing: Kinesis, Firehose
Infrastructure: Kubernetes
Billing & Revenue: Metronome, Stripe
Go-to-Market Integrations: Salesforce, Segment, Pylon, Zapier, cloud marketplace APIs
Customer-Facing Standards: OpenMetrics, FOCUS
Core Framework: Temporal (of course 😉)
What You Can Expect
High-impact ownership over systems tied directly to revenue, customer lifecycle, and platform scalability
Collaborative engineering culture focused on quality, pragmatism, and measurable outcomes
Exceptional technical colleagues and a feedback-rich environment
Lean processes and autonomy without unnecessary bureaucracy
Strong emphasis on reliability and operational excellence—balanced with rapid iteration
A team that values mentorship, thoughtful design, and steady improvements that compound over time
What You'll Bring
Backend engineering experience with a cloud/infrastructure focus, ideally with some ops exposure — a blend of infra and database-driven systems.
Experience on a control plane team for cloud-based microservices.
Background building or operating multi-tenant SaaS applications.
Familiarity with density-oriented cloud provider architectures.
Strong Postgres (or similar relational database) experience.
Track record designing for high availability, and managing compute and traffic at scale.
Solid database chops, and a bias toward building rather than just configuring — you'd rather write the tool than click through one.
CLI and DevOps fluency.
Nice to Have - Exposure to data pipelining.
