Senior Software Engineer, Convert (Backend/Infra)

You will design, build, and operate the distributed backend systems behind the recommendations pipeline and the AI workflow execution engine, primarily in Python and TypeScript/Node.js. You will own and harden the infrastructure the products run on, including the AI workflow platform on AWS and Kubernetes, improving reliability, observability, and scalability. You will strengthen how the systems handle failure through eventing and streaming, retries, backpressure, and recovery. You will reduce single points of failure across the infrastructure and share operational and on-call ownership. You will design clean service and API boundaries, and write and optimize MongoDB data models and queries that power recommendations. You will leverage state-of-the-art AI tooling to increase your impact, and help build reliable systems on top of non-deterministic, LLM-backed components. You will partner with product engineers, PMs, and designers to ship end-to-end, and raise the bar on tested, observable, maintainable code and thoughtful design docs. You will mentor engineers on backend and reliability practices.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
• Business-level fluency to read, write, and speak in English
• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production, ideally in scalable, multi-tenant SaaS
• Real depth in distributed systems: concurrency, asynchronous and eventually-consistent processing, queues or streaming, and designing for failure
• Strong in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js, and comfortable modeling data in MongoDB or a comparable database
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructure and DevOps: AWS, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability
• Value testing, documentation, and reliability, and consistently communicate trade-offs
• Comfortable with ambiguity, scope solutions with teammates, and get energy from mentoring earlier-career engineers
• Stay curious and open to growth with a proactive embrace of AI
• Experience with workflow or orchestration engines (n8n, Temporal, Airflow, or similar)
• Experience building on or operating LLM-backed or agentic systems in production
• Track record of taking a service from flaky to boringly reliable
