Senior Software Engineer, Core

Open 18d

You'll be designing, building, and implementing changes to Stellar Core, the primary distributed system used for maintaining Stellar's ledger and obtaining global consensus. You'll work on a wide variety of problems focused on growing and scaling the global network, including features that increase peer-to-peer networking and processing performance, decentralization and resilience to node failures or coordinated attacks, and proper incentive mechanics for network participants. You'll get to play with formal models and verification for consensus, run simulations to confirm emergent properties, and tackle typical scalability problems across distributed and multi-core systems. You'll collaborate closely with the CTO, the engineering team, and the open source community while owning core subsystems and helping the team hit critical product milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build key components of Stellar Core, the backbone software behind the Stellar Network
  • Design and develop robust, scalable, and extensible technologies that empower developers and network participants
  • Collaborate on new architectures and subsystems with the CTO, the engineering team, and the open source community
  • Write clean, maintainable code with an emphasis on edge case analysis and future-proofing
  • Own core subsystems of Stellar Core and help the team hit critical product milestones
  • Collaborate with the team on code review and design, and contribute to engineering best practices
  • Investigate and refactor performance bottlenecks to continue scaling the system
  • Author detailed technical feature and protocol (RFC) specifications
