Senior Software Engineer/Developer

Summary

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer/Developer based in the United States.

This role supports the modernization, integration, and sustainment of mission-critical IT systems within a federal environment. You will contribute to the design and development of secure, scalable applications while helping migrate legacy capabilities to modern platforms. The position combines hands-on software engineering, application integration, DevOps, cybersecurity, testing, and technical documentation. You will collaborate with engineers, developers, analysts, security teams, and government stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions aligned with organizational requirements. The role also provides an opportunity to advance CI/CD practices, cloud-native architectures, automation, and secure software development. Strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to quality will be essential in this highly collaborative environment.

Accountabilities

  • Provide engineering expertise for the design, development, implementation, modernization, and sustainment of IT solutions that improve system performance, availability, security, and resilience.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify applications, software, and specialized utilities in support of system modernization and platform migration initiatives.
  • Analyze business and user needs, software requirements, technical constraints, and project objectives to determine appropriate application designs and development approaches.
  • Design and implement software using supported programming languages, object-oriented principles, networking concepts, security methodologies, and established development standards.
  • Develop and maintain applications using technologies such as Java, JavaScript, jQuery, XML, SQL, Oracle, .NET, and C#.
  • Design and implement software testing, validation, quality assurance, security, and resiliency procedures.
  • Debug applications, resolve defects, adapt software to new hardware or platforms, and improve interfaces and overall performance.
  • Build applications capable of handling multiple input types, errors, exceptions, application faults, and operational logging.
  • Apply cybersecurity principles including encryption, access control, identity management, authentication, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and nonrepudiation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Implement and maintain secure version control, artifact management, dependency management, and development practices.
  • Automate builds, testing, and deployments through CI/CD pipelines while enforcing appropriate security and quality controls.
  • Support cloud-native architectures, infrastructure-as-code initiatives, containerization, and DevOps practices.
  • Assist with technical tool standardization, platform integration, architecture views, and continuous delivery processes aligned with applicable security standards.
  • Collaborate with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, application teams, security personnel, and customers to define interfaces, requirements, capabilities, and technical solutions.
  • Develop technical documentation, work items, release packages, change requests, and other artifacts in accordance with Agile practices and organizational policies.
  • Participate in internal review and change boards, technical discussions, quality audits, and corrective action activities.
  • Conduct causative research into software and product issues and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reliability.
  • Provide production support and outage assistance when required.
  • Support the development and deployment of release packages and maintain accurate project and development records.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders while demonstrating strong organization, initiative, problem-solving, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another technical discipline is required; equivalent education and experience may be considered, including two years of college combined with approximately 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
    • At least 5 years of professional experience in modern software development, or equivalent technical education and experience.
    • Hands-on experience with Java 8 or higher, JavaScript, jQuery, XML, XML Schema, SQL, Oracle databases, .NET, and C#.
    • Current IAM Level I certification, such as CompTIA Security+, is required.
    • Experience with Agile concepts, principles, and delivery practices, preferably including at least 3 years working as part of Agile teams.
    • Experience with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, cloud platforms, version control, and automated deployment.
    • Experience with Azure DevOps, Microsoft 365, Teams, Excel, Visio, and Outlook is preferred.
    • Strong experience with one or more of the following technologies or areas: C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, ASP.NET, PowerShell, Visual Studio, HTML, CSS, TypeScript, VS Code, REST APIs, SOAP, service-based architectures, event-driven architectures, EDI, XML, WebLogic, Fusion Middleware, secure FTP, web application development, Oracle 12c, PL/SQL, Kubernetes, and OCI containers.
    • Experience with cloud-native architectures and Infrastructure as Code.
    • Experience working with Platform as a Service environments such as Appian or Salesforce is preferred.
    • Strong understanding of software security principles, vulnerability management, security assessment, and secure development practices.
    • Experience with security tools and techniques such as vulnerability scanners and intrusion detection systems is advantageous.
    • Ability to develop automation scripts using technologies such as Bash or PowerShell.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical and security risks and develop effective solutions.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across development, security, operations, and customer teams.
    • Knowledge of Navy or Department of Defense supply processes, interfaces, and environments is preferred.
    • Experience supporting government or DoD environments is highly desirable.
    • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, security threats, development practices, and organizational priorities.
    • Strong interest in automation and improving efficiency, reliability, and security through technology.
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment while demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, and strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to perform prolonged desk and computer work and repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

      • Annual compensation range of $120,000–$135,000, with actual compensation based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, competencies, contract requirements, location, and organizational considerations.
