Job Summary

Senior Software Engineer — Full Stack

Location: Remote

Role overview

The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with the Engineering Manager, Architect, Product Manager and team to understand both stated and unstated needs, make independent technical decisions, and lead delivery of software solutions through milestones spanning a product focus or multi-component system.

The role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and enhancing applications for First American. These applications are typically web-based and are developed in accordance with established coding standards and guidelines using a continuous Build-Integrate-Test approach within an Agile environment.

The Senior Software Engineer will use deep business domain knowledge and strong software engineering practices to improve functionality, performance, reliability, and maintainability—while guiding teammates toward maximum customer impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead execution of major projects or multi-component initiatives across the full SDLC—from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and launch.
  • Develop deep understanding of the business, product, and domain; use that knowledge to recommend technical direction and functional improvements that maximize customer impact.
  • Make technical decisions under uncertainty; simplify complex or ambiguous requirements into actionable designs and communicate them clearly in writing.
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager, Architect, and Product Manager on team goals; identify misaligned work and redirect focus toward durable outcomes.
  • Own projects end-to-end with minimal guidance; drive urgency on operational issues within your sphere of responsibility and deliver resilient outcomes.
  • Create and maintain project plans for medium-sized initiatives; break down epics into implementable work with clear milestones and acceptance criteria.
  • Uphold and champion coding standards, quality assurance practices, and configuration management across work you own and influence.
  • Lead code reviews that coach others and identify design risks; improve team processes, reduce toil, and simplify systems.
  • Design and optimize database solutions; establish patterns for data access, performance tuning, and reliability at scale.
  • Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and remediation for production issues; embed observability, fallbacks, and operational safeguards in solutions.
  • Own system-level design within project scope; understand production infrastructure, integrations, and cross-system dependencies at scale.
  • Drive cross-team coordination and stakeholder alignment; resolve technical blind spots and dependencies with partner teams.
  • Mentor engineers—including across teams when needed; contribute to hiring and foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Challenge inefficiency and drive continuous improvement in how the team plans, measures, and delivers success.

Competencies

  • Probes to understand stated and unstated stakeholder needs; brings contextual nuance to deliverables and partners as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Monitors own deliverables and team outcomes to ensure adherence to performance, time, budget, and quality standards; escalates risks early.
  • Makes independent technical judgments under open-ended requirements; simplifies problems by focusing on the heart of what customers and the business need.
  • Guides teammates toward maximum customer impact; challenges and addresses inefficiency and misaligned work with the Engineering Manager.
  • Takes initiative to grow technical and leadership skills; reflects on and shares learnings from self and others.
  • Is receptive to new ideas and different perspectives; promotes productive conflict and constructive dialogue.
  • Adapts effectively to different cultures and unfamiliar situations; thinks quickly and demonstrates urgency on critical deliverables.
  • Encourages teamwork and collaboration; unblocks others with pragmatic technical insight and clear communication.
  • Leads problem decomposition and decision-making with incomplete information; balances trade-offs across simplicity, performance, and speed.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Uses AI tools (cursor/ claude/ pi) and agentic coding assistants effectively across the project lifecycle; shares practical patterns that help teammates improve delivery.

Technical skills

An ideal candidate should have knowledge of and hands-on experience with the following technologies:

Required

  • Microsoft technologies: C# (.NET Core, .NET Framework), TypeScript, NestJS, and Node.js
  • Microservices and event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka or other event processing services

  • Testing strategies: Unit Testing, Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD)

  • Jira and Agile/Scrum practices

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Python
  • Knowledge of data analytics tools such as Databricks
  • AWS or Azure Developer certification

Experience
