Senior Software Engineer, Fullstack

Summary

Build geospatial planning tools and automated permitting workflows for deploying safety hardware using TypeScript, Node.js, React, and Kubernetes.

The Problem

As more cities and private communities adopt Flock's ecosystem, deploying hardware efficiently is our primary engineering scaling challenge. Building a comprehensive planning and customer operations portal that connects urban planning, municipal compliance, and physical deployment requires sophisticated software design. You will engineer core software engines that calculate optimal device placement, automate complex permitting workflows across thousands of jurisdictions, and deliver unified dashboard interfaces for deployment teams and customers.

What You'll Own

  • Architect geospatial tools and routing algorithms that map optimal, effective locations for hardware, drones, and safety devices.

  • Build automated permitting integrations that streamline submissions, tracking, and approvals across municipalities and utility providers.

  • Design unified customer and deployment dashboards that deliver real-time visibility into device installation progress and fleet health.

  • Develop robust backend web services using TypeScript, Node.js, and SQL databases to power real-time planning data interactions.

  • Deploy and manage containerized microservices across cloud environments using Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes.

What This Role is Not

  • This isn't a front-end or UI-only engineering role, you will build full-stack web applications, backend services, database schemas, and cloud deployment pipelines.

  • This is not an RF hardware design or field operations position, you will write the software platform that powers hardware deployment workflows rather than managing physical site installs.

  • This isn't a siloed maintenance assignment, you will build zero-to-one planning tools, solve complex geospatial challenges, and directly influence product growth.

What You Bring

  • Proficiency building web services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js alongside modern web frameworks like React.

  • Strong SQL database skills and practical experience interacting with varied relational data stores.

  • Hands-on experience containerizing applications with Docker and deploying remotely via Helm to Kubernetes environments.

  • Practical working knowledge of cloud services, including AWS S3, API Gateway, and SQS messaging infrastructure.

  • Capability using modern AI-assisted engineering tools to optimize personal development velocity.

Compensation

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $172,000 and $190,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.
