Senior Software Engineer

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Software Engineer to join their Pretoria-based development team in a hybrid capacity. This opportunity is ideal for a well-rounded developer with extensive software engineering experience and a strong track record across back-end and full-stack development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and enhance robust software solutions.
• Contribute to back-end and full-stack development initiatives.
• Apply sound software engineering principles throughout the development lifecycle.
• Effectively direct AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor within the development workflow.
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs.
• Work with relational databases and version-control systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges efficiently.
• Collaborate with development teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Communicate effectively and contribute proactively to technical discussions and initiatives.

Requirements

• 8+ years of solid software development experience.
• Strong back-end and full-stack development experience.
• Strong development experience in at least one of:
• Java
• NodeJS
• TypeScript
• Python
• Practical experience directing AI coding agents as part of the development process.
• University degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A proactive, diligent and self-starting approach.

Advantageous Skills

• AWS experience.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API development.
• Git and version-control experience.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL or other relational databases.
